Retail players now have Cata and Dragonflight to enjoy. With the release of Cata coming it will destroy everything we have fought for. Our characters, our guilds, our servers are now gone when Cata Retail is launched. Again we must go to private servers to enjoy the Golden Age of WoW to play Wrath.
I guess all good things come to an end. I started in Vanilla with this character and now in Wrath it is over. No home to return too when Cata is launched. All my progression and Classic toons have no where to go if Wrath Era doesn’t happen. The wonderful active PvP server I’m on is done and will become Retail in Cata.
Cata was the beginning of the end and only need to experience that one time. It’s something most of us don’t want to relive. The people that want Cata are Retail players, they are Cata babies and started in Retail.
We fought hard for our home to return to us and it did, for awhile. Blizz launched Classic and Vanilla. Our journey continued through the Dark portal and into Northrend to fight the Lich King to enjoy the pinnacle of WoW and our Golden Age. Now the home we fought so hard for over the years is going away. Classic servers will be converted into Retail Cata servers.
I would have no problem if you made Cata fresh servers for the people that want to play Cata. Just don’t destroy Classic and our home. Retail players win again.
Yes I know that Seasons of Discovery is coming but that is a different game. The place we call home is still being destroyed by Cata. Oh well we had a good run. I guess I’m thankful for that. If Blizz wants us to go back to private servers what choice do we have.

Let’s be real here. They only did classic because people were playing a lot of private servers and they wanted to monetize on that. They they saw how empty the servers got.

Over 800,000 people were playing on Nostalrius and Blizz invited them to Blizz HQ. There was a huge demand for the old game which is Vanilla thru Wrath. There has never been a demand for Cata which is why private Cata servers aren’t popular.
At least we got to live through a journey again. I just don’t see why Blizz wants us to go back to private servers. I give them credit for working on HC Classic and Seasons of Discovery but don’t understand why they want to destroy the home they buillt with the release of Retail again with Cata. It’s undoing so much.

Not going to fib, but I didn’t read the novel … I do agree though in the need for Blizz to be leaving WotLK servers up. Got that much from the bit I skimmed.

Pretty much the same that happened for me when they released wotlk classic. TBC was my home and my fav expansion, now we cant play TBC and same goes for wrath…

No I started in vanilla and enjoyed cata and am looking forward to classic cata as it was the first time (pre nerf) the game had mechanics that required more than 2 brain cells.

Don’t play retail, first experience of WoW is Classic, played through Classic, TBC and now WotLK. Can’t wait to play Cataclysm next.

I’d say log off forums, relogin in again and maybe rotate a posting char.
But my char still shows old gear having done that already. A few times. This char is in furious+ in game. Log off and char switch is not the magic fix it used to be.

Started in TBC and I want Cata.
I keep seeing this take, but private Cata servers are much harder to setup run than pre 3.3.5a client. It’s pretty much the reason anything post wrath is emulated so much less is all the backend changes to the client. This has gotten better over the years, but the 3.3.5a client is pretty much plug n play.
There are no characters named abombshield that have any logged raids in wrath. So, I’m skeptical to believe this.

I 100 percent agree with this post. Here we are again with you think you want but what you really want is. No Blizzard, full stop. There is no reason you can not have WOTLK servers. Heck you should have TBC servers as well for people who enjoyed up to TBC. These people are unbelievably oblivious to what the community overwhelmingly wants.

Its pretty funny the complaining ps server players did with all the changes in wrath and how they said the game wasnt wrath classic and now they want wrath + to continue.
Cata isnt just for retail players its for players that actually love wow and never had to play a pirated version.
Cata feels pretty similar to last retail expansions.
You’ll see it, holy power paladins, homogenized classes, flying everywhere, same world as retail, same quests.
Classic was all about that slow and simple gameplay, resource management…
Cata will not have charm of other classic expansions, and it’ll be even more toxic and sweaty, if you disliked gearscore or being kicked out of dungeons or gdkps, wait until you see Cata.

It blows my mind that Blizzard went to all the effort of bringing us these classic expansions and then just straight up abandoned them. Wasn’t the whole point to give us a Blizzard quality server for those who wanted to remain in those eras of the game? Now those people have no choice but to go to back to unofficial servers instead.
