Level 22, and my cat still has no claw ability. I have gone to the pet trainer, trained my pet in armor/stamina/growl, but there seems to be no option for claw. My assumption is that I am just missing something, but does anyone know what I need to do to get my cat this ability? I thought it came standard. Thanks for any input.
You need to find a cat that comes with the Claw-ability from the get-go.
Not all cats do.
If you haven’t tamed a Cat which already has Claw, you won’t be able to teach it to any other cat you tame either(unless they already know it).
Once you’ve found a cat that has the ability, make sure you use it for a bit until you’ve learned how to teach Claw to other pets.

If you talking about Classic then like the previous poster mention you need to tamed a new pet with the Claw ability.

It is important that you keep one free slot in your stable at all times so you can train new pets to get their skills. For instance, once you get a Claw ability so you can train your cat with it, you will later want higher ranks of Claw so you can train your pet with that one too. Getting all the pet skills so you can have a full compliment of pets is one of the immersive elements of the Classic Hunter. Even if its a PITA. It feels very rewarding in the end.
It’s important to note you do not have to train every single rank in an ability. For instance, you can train your cat in Claw 3 right out of the gate. I just got a Ghost Saber for that purpose (he comes with Claw 3). You can do that with all of the skills.

And thanks for the tip about the stable. Unfortunately, in Classic that is going to be difficult. From what I can see we only get 2 additional slots.
It isn’t that difficult. You will only have 1 pet with you when you travel and you leave a slot open to put your pet in when you go and tame a pet you need for it’s ability.
You choose one main pet. Then you tame for upgrades. After you get all the upgrades and/or buy a third slot, then you can get a second main pet, and then a third by the time you complete both of those conditions.
Since you can only have one, I recommend a good tank pet, like a boar or bear. Gorilla is good if you want to try to AoE and are BM.
