Casual Multiboxing. How do you do it?

Just wondering if anyone does any casual dual-boxing or anything like it?

I have multiple wow accounts from back when I RAF’d myself for all the old rewards and recently started back up a second account.
So far I’ve just been flipping between the 2 screens, using a /follow hotkey on the 2nd account. It gets the job done, but it’s clunky and slow.

Back when I did the RAF thing I went down the multibox rabbit hole a bit and had hotkeynet and Jamba(I think?) set up and 5box’d dungeons, mostly to level up alts for my main account but also for fun.

Doing a brief search it looks like all the popular free options are no longer supported for multiboxing so I was wondering what any casual boxers are doing these days?
Did you bite the bullet and buy keyclone software?
Did you Frankenstein one of the older free to use ones into working condition?

I’m not looking to be the next herb gathering terror of Nazjatar, just wondering what others who multibox casually are up to and looking for any pointers for a super basic(and free?) dualbox setup possibly.

You multiboxers are doing god’s work. Keep it up and keep the whiners’ tears flowing.

I don’t think anyone is writing rants about my 2 druids or paladins doing world quests, but thanks for the bump?

You’d be surprise at what bothers these people. If they had their way you wouldn’t be able to multibox with you 2 druids or paladin.

Most MB downloads now have viruses and even Pwnboxer site has one.

Octopus from King Wampa Gaming might still have the free DL for it. One version has a virus. The other version actually works. I forgot which… just have to try it out and see.

I multibox and use Isboxer… it’s the best program imo for multiboxing…

The best software you’ll ever use is ISBoxer. They have a discord that is incredibly active, and there are a plethora of video guides (the best ones by a guy named MiRai, who’s also a Mod in the discord server) and tutorial threads going about simple functions of it.

Unfortunately it is a paid program, but often times Lax (the designer of ISB) has promos and whatnot. I think it’s $15 for 3 months, which is the cheapest option.

Edit: He’s actually providing a discount right now for $5 off the 3 month package, and $10 off the year package, in light of the pandemic going on.

ISBoxer does sound like the best tool for the job, but I can’t justify spending money on something like that to myself especially right now.

That’s completely fair. When you can justify spending that money then I do urge you to try it out. For now, I hope everything goes well in your search for something free. Be very careful, as always. Free downloads can always carry something you didn’t originally want, lol.

This is what I do.

Once things are a little less chaotic I’ll definitely reconsider.

:grinning: It’s not too bad, right? It’s just sometimes it would be easier to have both characters actively casting or using abilities.

I managed to do that with a pair of mages in classic, because all the cast times were so long I was able to go through my full rotation clicking back and forth between windows.

Too bad you didn’t have a second monitor.

I won’t have a computer without them anymore.

I actually have 2 monitors. I keep both wow windows open on one screen, staggered so the main one I play is on top, but with all the keybinds across the bottom and right sides of the windows. My other window holds non-wow stuff.

I find it too distracting being able to see both windows at the same time.

I do, but i don’t have anything to send my inputs to both WoW’s at the same time.

Once I got a taste of dual-monitor use back in my bank fraud claims days I got a 2nd monitor for home use.
So not literally flipping between, more like alt-tabbing to quick swap active windows or moving the mouse between screens for interactive objects and quest turn-ins.
It’s not super smooth but it is manageable.
Back when I did my 5-box RAF leveling I had 4 mini windows going on my 2nd display to make sure I wasn’t leaving anybody behind.

I did that in Everquest, as a last hurrah  It was kind of fun; Started a second account and transferred my Dark Elf Cleric to it. Then the Dark elf Cleric could group with my Troll SK or Wood Elf Druid. It made the game fun, for a bit. I set it up so I had only to hit one key, to switch to the other one.

I’ve never felt like I had a powerful enough computer, in Wow, to do that (run two characters at once, alt tabbing.)

I think “Pro Multiboxers” in Wow use several computers?

So pending on your mouse and keyboard if they are not cheap and have remote access control in your control panel you cb set them up so they respond to both instances or in my case 5 of wow that is running. No need to dl anything

I’ve dual boxed using hotkeynet, which is free. Theres a certain art to it, I’m not great at it but it is fun. I couldn’t do it without dual monitors. Lately I haven’t been multiboxing though, just enjoying the game the old fashioned way.

I have boxed 2 accounts on one PC all of BFA using the free Autohotkey.
It takes some time to set up the macros to use, but I enjoy it.

Started using because my main was a holy priest and was very weak doing any quests. I leveled him with an arcane mage. The spells matched up well with holy nova/arcane explosion, smite/arcane missiles, etc.

With Korrak’s revenge and more toons, I changed to matching classes which is easier to control. I now main 2 hunters on Alliance and Horde as Kirk/Spock and 2 mages as Picard/Riker.

I do not herb/mine much and usually just do the invasions, WQ and hunt mounts.
I now have all the 8.3 world mounts.

Boxing with matching ranged classes is easiest and hunter are the most fun (fetch is great). I do not box melee because it is to hard to keep together, but I have a monk healer I drag behind them to heal when needed.

Dual boxing is fun but harder than just playing 1 toon. The trailing toon is hard to keep out of the fire! If it requires a lot of movement, I play 1 at a time.

You will also get hated on by people that see you because boxing triggers them. I just ignore these because I have more fans than haters!

I occasionally run two copies of the game on my pc when my kids aren’t available to do a farming run. I use their guy as the lockout holder and just set them to follow.

Nothing too crazy.
