Casting while moving, why not?

For some of these abilities that are over 2 seconds to cast, why cant qe talent options to move while casting them? Shaman used to be able to cast lightning bolt while moving. Then it got removed. Some of these Mage abilities could stand to have a similar treatment.

Especially for classes with no passive apeed increase, it doesnt seem insanely broken.

We learned with KJ’s cunning on warlocks that casting while moving is bad for the game in almost all situations with instants being an exception. And KJ’s cunning slowed the warlock for doing it passively.

No thanks.

Evoker is designed to do a lot of hard casting while moving and we see how much people complain about it now despite it actually not being broken because it was designed with it in mind from the first place.

Because being able to attack while moving is supposed to be the advantage of melee. The trade off of being able to attack from further away is intended to be less freedom of movement.

I like to use Nature’s swiftness and spiritwalker’s grace. Long cds but worth it imo.

It was tons of fun in pve. I’m guessing the complaints would be from pvp, which I wouldn’t bat an eye if Blizz hotfixed pvp out of the game overnight.

Because melee would get upset, And we can’t have them getting upset.

At this point it is emphasized to take only melee to high keys because casters just cannot keep up to the tune of having to ~CONSTANTLY~ move.

And Melee have 10 trillion gap closers that it makes being a caster in PvP an actual nightmare.

Game needs to stop catering to melee.
The trade off was that melee weren’t meant to have 100% uptime due to not being able to keep up with the pace of things 100% of the time but that changed, Hell movement fights are actually EASIER than stationary if you look at things such as Warrior and demon hunter who both gain resources for moving.

The game has become so hostile to casters it’s hilarious between the ten trillion gap closers melee have thus making them impossible to kite

To the fact that melee typically get to ignore so many mechanics

To the final point that melee are incredibly advantaged in keys because they aren’t forced into dealing up to 10 seconds of just casting instant spells because of bad luck with chained swirlies that only ever target ranged, to having to move to solve thundering with melee to keep the melee happy, To Affix Mechanics happening ontop of that.

Being in Melee was also supposed to be far more hostile, With everything back in the day having INSTANT cleave and PARRY CLEAVES to go with it but thesedays? Not many things really have cleave /disarm

It made being a caster in PVE far less frustrating than it is.

Slide casting is great in FF. WoW might benefit from ‘borrowing’ it.

(Slide casting is a feature in FF where you can move during about the last 1/3 second of your cast without interrupting the spell cast which allows you to do small repositions without interrupting your back to back spellcasting and wasting GCDs)

That’s kind of here, A lot of people have a latency component to their cast bar so that once the castbar goes PAST that point you can actually start moving and the server wont register it as a cancelled cast.

Thus making depending on how much haste you’ve got, Bunny hop, Or step casting a thing.

RP walk would be an appropriate speed for casting and moving.

All true, but the DF translation is horrible.

Ranged has to move as much, or more, than melee these days.

It’s a melee expansion as a result.

There’s already specs who work like that if that’s what you want like BM and Devastation Evoker.

They come with other drawbacks but that’s normal otherwise you end up with MoP Warlocks.

Ranged are innately safer from boss mechanics and such than melee, so the trade off is that they have to plant and cast while melee can move.

They still can with the right talent choices.

So the first expansion to ever actually balance ranged and melee? Sounds good to me. Every tier you’d try to bring as few melee as possible, now you actually want an even mix.

I agree, it seems these new instances have so many hazards that pop up everywhere and very often that casting is very difficult. I thought the main reason for casting was so you did have to worry as much about moving if you had a good tank and dps, they were there to prevent the mobs and bosses from focusing on you and therefore allowing you to do your damage. There are so many times I just stop moving to start casting just to need to move again because of some blue/red/brown/green blob forming under me. I find i difficult to understand how a boss is able to take swords and shields and daggers bombarding them to be able to cast anything, I know it may sound naive but I mean seriously as a caster when I am being attacked it slows me down and or prevents me from casting. The need to make it more realistic, I know it is a fantasy game but really the mechanics are not anywhere near realistically possible to most of these instances.

  1. Melee is currently top 10/11 in raid. Now sure how you can see that as “balanced”.
  2. You don’t want an even mix. You want a single lock for stones and gate, and maybe Arcane + Shadow and that is it. The reset are melee. Guilds are actively sitting ranged in favor of melee for progression.

Thank you! This has been a major peeve of mine for a long time. There are just WAY too many mechanics going on in dungeons and raids for casters to keep up. Is it any wonder that so many ranged classes are hunters? Because they were the one ranged class that allowed you to move while hitting the target. I’d love to play my Warlock more, but for me at least it’s just too frustrating. I begin to cast something then I have to stop what I’m doing to move. GEt ready to cast, oops, have to move again Rinse and repeat. Blizzard needs to either shorten the casting time or just let us cast while moving.
