Only in the movies do world-destroying natural disasters happen overnight. The increase in coastal flooding is measured in portions of an inch per year. That’s why it’s so funny when someone points out that “It’s like, minus fifteen where I am!” in the middle of winter…while ignoring that overall for the year, they’ve experienced record warmth.
Our children will be the ones to see the worst of it.
I haven’t seen a container of clorox wipes since early March. Everything else around here is fully available though. All of our local groceries and even Walmart have been stocked on everything, except the wipes at least. And hydrogen peroxide, weirdly.
The unemployment is a problem though, seems like at least some of the states’ systems were set up to intentionally make it more difficult for us to get money. Boy we sure can get out those trillions in bailouts to the big corps though, that was no problem.
You mean when China covered it up and let 5 million people travel out of Wuhan into Europe and NA?
The quarantine flattens the curve. By definition it prolongs the outbreak. Quarantine can’t stop the virus unless everyone does it, which can’t happen.
Actually, that is sensible and very true in many places. Food is a priority over those things.
Yep, it’s recently gotten better around here as well.
I’m afraid that many companies will refrain from opening in order to avoid paying people as much money. On the bright side, when this is all over, the job market will be incredible and employment will skyrocket.
Don’t worry about them at all. Their ‘use’ is minuscule, unless it’s to placate the masses. Just use hand-sanitizer if you’re really worried, but again it likely won’t do much.
Wouldn’t surprise me. I’m sure many of them can’t actually afford to pay their employees to reopen either, especially small companies. Businesses can reopen, but with all of us broke anyway, how’s the economy supposed to recover?
Our president waited at least a month after the outbreak to ban incoming travel from China. Why? Because that would hurt airline profits.
It can’t happen because of people like you. Even if you took the economic problems off the table, people would go outside just to “stick it to the man” or “be savage” or whatever.
You have a lot of rights here in the US, but you don’t have the right to kill or endanger people.
And when prevailing medical and scientific consensus was something along the lines of “This is probably God punishing us for not being Christian enough!”
You mean science distorted by media outlets and phony peer review scams?
Please tell me how adding a few PPM of CO2 or methane is going to drastically change things hm?
The greenhouse gas is water-vapor. Not an electrochemically disadvantaged trace gas. CO2 and other greenhouse gases barely hold a candle compared to it, and impact it little.
Follow the money. Are they suggesting putting money into viable options like nuclear or fusion. Or are they trying to get money for ‘green funds’ that go to ambiguous sources.
I wish my profession could be free of such things, but sadly that’s not my lot in life
I would argue that the US government doesn’t have the constitutional authority to restrict us to our homes. The Constitution wasn’t suspended because of a virus.
Allowing businesses to reopen just passes the buck and takes financial responsibility away from the Govt and passes it onto the small business owners.
Lets say you’re a restaurant owner. You can open again! Great!
Except nobody will want to come to your restaurant because well, it’s still a pandemic, and you no longer have the safety nets you had a couple weeks ago since, hey you’re allowed to run completely unhindered, so it’s obviously your fault if your business fails.
