As a returning player I’m astonished that Blizzard cannot control the “WTS” runs in the group finder. Both retail and remix are riddled with them. A GM could log on twice a day and end up suspending well many dozens of accounts. Smaller companies can fix this so why can’t Blizzard? Or is this just some gray area that’s not actually enforced?
It’s a gray area that is being accepted by blizzard.
They put new characters into the service channel instead of trade chat now all while claiming they have no control over sale runs and can’t act on enforcing it.
While profiting from token sales from it.
Its scummy all around.
Their previous president was a boost seller and the current game director literally ran the old elitist jerks website and was a tryhard mythic raider back in the day (maybe still is). That should give you a clue how against carrying Blizzard leadership is.
And selling services isn’t strictly against the rules even if using the LFG tool is
I didn’t even think about this but it’s true. Good point.
I like to report them though .
Advertising them in the wrong place is absolutely against the rules.
Speaking of which, I need a carry through the mythic raid before the expansion is over, I want that void drake mount
I said as much. Doesn’t mean selling is itself against the rules.
But again, we got leadership who has actively participated and a company as a whole who greatly profits from the tokens “legally” used by the carry communities (ignore all the IRL direct money sales that are done via discord off the record)…not all that hard to figure out why Blizzard doesn’t care all that much to actively police the spammy group listings.
Best bet would be to make a alt and go to a raid realms town and check their service channel. While everything is cross realm the cheaper ads will be there.
Think it’s pretty cheap these days…3-5mil
why would they take away the GM’s side hustle of WTS ads
Blizzard could be like other games where the player needs to be certain amount of days old, etc to posting world chat channels.
That or they could make the sales containment chat opt in instead of trade chat…
They are totally in the same scheme together. Considering Blizz could easily wipe every last character away of boosters and leave them with nothing, but this wouldn’t be profitable with them when it comes to token sales and subscription fees. Both are scummy and there isn’t anything we can do about it.
Smaller companies likely have fewer of them too, no?
Download premade group finder and set the rio >50. That should get rid of them all.
Fewer because they do something about it.
So the solution is to download an addon, even though Blizzard wants to remove many addons because they think they can do a better job.
there is an addon that you can install that will filter out the ads for you
If what people are claiming is true that there is some sort of agreement between them then yea might be the only way at the moment is to get an addon.
Wouldn’t see them stopping if it gave them a financial incentive to keep them there.
Blizzard does take action against these groups. The problem is that this is like playing a game of whack-a-mole. Every time they knock one group out with the banhammer, another group or two appear to replace it.
These illicit accounts are funnelling people to third-party websites where they can buy runs for real $$ as well as illicit gold and other items. It’s the exact same thing gold sellers would do, only this time there’s no way for Blizzard to undercut the people running these services.
In Midnight there will be a ‘carry sales’ category added to the group finder. I am hoping that there is also measures in place to automatically move any group that is advertising to the carry section, allowing people to ignore carries and find regular groups.
I offer carry services, but distance and weight are considered in the final cost.
