Career Mode!

I had this idea awhile back, WoD got me to thinking about it with the garrison #failedpotential but in reality, retail is probably far too big to implement such a plan, however being back on Classic, it got me to thinking about it again, and I do believe a career mode would be possible here.

How would it work?

The world starts exactly as it does now, but when you kill a mob, that’s it. It never respawns*. Your mission would be to clear each zone of hostile mobs, and clean up, rebuild and restore the zones to their natural un-corrupted form.

*(mobs that spawn other mobs will continue to spawn mobs until they themselves are killed.)

Capital cities would remain MMO as they are now, so that AH, crafting, finding groups, forming guilds, etc, all that would stay the same, because dungeons and raids would remain the same. Once you clear a dungeon in career mode, it remains clear (forever) and is no longer an instanced area and becomes part of your career progress. Unless you select to reset the dungeon/raid because you still want/need gear from there.

Same would apply to open world areas. For example lets say you need help with Araj the Summoner or Hogger. You can /lfg in a capitol city (or perhaps some version of the lfg tool in retail), and everyone in the party will gain the progress. If you are helping someone in an area you have already cleared, then the mobs will be present and available to kill as long as someone in your party needs to kill them. When you drop party, you are back in your career area with that particular area clear.

This means you have the option to do as much solo, or as much together as you want. Except of course content that cannot be soloed.

There could also be a career mode option a) restore the world or b) corrupt the world. In the event of plan b obviously, all friendlies must be killed, and when reputation becomes unfriendly, they all become hostile. I haven’t thought out option b yet, but I would make it be more difficult than option a. Maybe capitol cities, once your reputation becomes hated, would become a dungeon.

In either case, if you fail to clear a dungeon/raid of all bosses by Tuesday, then the weekly reset results in all progress for the dungeon being lost.

Just a rough idea so far, but I for one would be up for the challenge of restoring all of Azeroth and ridding it of demons and scourge once and for all.

^^

And what about all the times the mobs you’re killing are animals? What about crafting professions that require materials from those animals, animals you have completely wiped out?

I mean … I guess it would make a good model for complete extinction of life on a planet.

Nobody wants “fresh”/seasonal servers.

This is a different game entirely.

I mean, I’d like seasonal servers, but not at the expense of our current servers.

And I have no real interest in what the OP’s describing, which doesn’t seem to be either fresh or seasonal servers, but a specific weird ruleset :stuck_out_tongue:

O M F G Eilethalua. Really?

FIGURE IT OUT.

lol
you’re the one that asked for comments by posting your idea

which doesn’t appeal to me because it sounds like an awful lot of phasing

go make your own pserver with all those +changes thne

Not my job. You made the suggestion. I simply saw an issue because you assumed all mobs to be killed are demons and scourge.

(And, really, I’ll admit I’m not taking the idea at all seriously. This kind of experimental idea is for games that have ongoing development, not games that we know how they worked from beginning to end.)

Why is this nonsense on the Classic forum? Y’want to suggest dumb changes, take them to the Modern suggestions forum, where there’s a good chance Blizzard will go “Yeah that’s brilliant!” and implement them, there in a game that’s already too ruined to be ruined by this.

It appears I have drastically overestimated players intelligence level. I am talking about a CONCEPT.

Animals can respawn. FIGURE IT OUT. If you can’t figure out simple ideas like that, then you have no business commenting on someone elses idea, imo. Animals to be farmed will obviously respawn. If hostile mobs need to be farmed, then the mats can be moved to something that can be farmed without changing the concept.

What is fresh/seasonal servers? All I suggested was a career mode. Same as many other games.

Where did I say I would replace/eliminate current game/progress/server. THE CONCEPT IS AN ADDITIONAL MODE. ADDITIONAL. OPTIONAL.

I posted a concept, not a completely developed game.

Stop using the forums for ### text-based PVP.
Kthxbye.

Add: Correction: Either I overestimated player intelligence, or possibly underestimated player hostility and their pathological need for insulting others.

MY BAD.

sorry hombre but the moment you took your idea public you invited comments

not all suggestions get love

This isn’t about our intelligence. It’s about your ability to put together a complete concept and work out why it may or may not be such a great idea.

There are way too many “great ideas” out there which have glaring problems their inventors are too arrogant to see. You’ll be a better idea person if you learn to let go of your attitude and actually stop and think.

I would rather have a player bounty option. Have NPC’s ( or players) that can loan money to players but if you don’t pay back the loan in time, a bounty is put out on that character and any other players can accept the bounty to kill that player and get rewarded a portion of the gold that the player owed.

Could also tie in dishonorable kills in to this system as well…
Obviously would not happen, but would be a cool feature for any MMO’s that are released in the future.

“Stop and think.” You mean like hurling personal attacks with zero-thought or familiarity?

So basically they can make an offline version of this game which would be prolly 200 gb+ with the option to group

like you insulting others and throwing a tantrum because people didn’t fawn over your CONCEPT

The first Guild Wars worked kind of like this, and I have to say that it was awesome. That having been said, I must have been in the minority in thinking that because they wouldn’t have end-of-lifed the game so quickly. So while I personally enjoy the style of play that you’re suggesting, I have doubts about its viability because it’s been tried before without much success.

You have 5 seconds to pay back that 100 gold I just borrowed you.

Times up.
