I remember back during vanilla when players would level maybe once a day then spend a lot of their off time working on professions, world pvp, farming for their mount, or just hanging out in Elwynn talking to other players.

Not the experience I had in vanilla for sure

it would be a great idea to introduce XP cap or diminishing returns on a weekly basis so people don’t rush to max level

Not even “fair” bait.

And Blizzard doesn’t give a rats behind if you race to max level. Because they know level is only a tiny piece of the gameplay. Leveling is easy now. There’s SO much to keep you busy after you max level.
