Can't whisper/respond in-game

Hello! I can’t seem to be able to message or respond to my friends on battle.net within WoW. I see bnet friends online, etc does not say Bnet is down or anything like that. Here are the things I tried.

  • removed all addons
  • deleted cache within WoW folder AND bnet folder
  • deleted cache folders from %appdata%
  • deleted WTF folder
  • uninstalled battlenet
  • reinstalled battlenet
  • Repair files tool

Playing a game, unable to whisper/message people is very boring especially when communication is key when trying to accomplish things in the game.

I can message on battle.net perfectly fine outside of the game - this is only happening inside the game and I never been in trouble with chat or anything like that, so I just extremely pissed right now having to alt tab just to respond to people.

Have u tried a /resetchat and your forgetting the interface folder to delete.

By removing all addons, do you mean that you deleted (or renamed) the Interface folder OR just merely disabled them in game?

If you did not delete (or rename) the Interface folder, then you have not actually removed the addons or any corruption they might be causing.

Here are the instructions for a proper full UI reset:

The other question is what error message are u getting if any.

Lot of people tend to skip steps were just trying to help.

  • Removed addons from WoW directory to a backup USB stick.

  • Deleted WTF folder

  • Deleted Cache Folder

  • Went into %appdata%

    • Deleted Battlenet Folder
    • Deleted Blizzard Entertainment folder
  • Went into windows settings > apps > uninstalled Battlenet

  • Re-downloaded Battlenet

  • No errors in game - I get whispers from friends on battle.net, but unable to reply to them as it just says, “ is not online” and this happens to ALL my characters not just a specific one.

So lets get this blue response.

Your still missing the interface folder thats part of a full UI reset and this is a player to player support forum with blue moderation they usualy wont step in if the correct info provided.

Thank you for clarifying that for us.

Blizzard response via the Forums is never guaranteed and is not meant as a means of contact to them. If you wish to discuss your issues with Blizzard, then I would suggest submitting a ticket.

I mean, the good news is that you listed some things that you tried. That’s a step above what we tend to get here

But asking if you did a Full UI reset and not just the stuff you listed (because you neglected to mention a few steps required to do one), is just us trying to make sure it was done correctly.

That said, is there a chance that somehow your parental controls got turned on? You can check by trying to Remove Parental Controls.

It’s Sunday and these forums are not staffed 24/7. In fact, there tends to be less coverage on weekends. If you’d like a guaranteed response, a ticket is the best route.

Check that your parental controls didn’t somehow get activated first.

Having the same issue here. Can respond on the bnet app but can’t respond in game.

Have you tried logging in and outa the bnet app alltogether.

I have tried

/resetchat and it does not work.

In addition - when I say I backed up the addons I mean I moved the “interface” folder all entirely thus when I went back into WoW it would auto generate a new interface folder with the default blizzard ui.

I can’t recall if I mentioned this, but when I log into a different battlenet account and log into Overwatch I can message/receive messages perfectly fine. This issue is happening for a specific bnet account only for World of Warcraft.

Sounds like you might need to put in a Tech Support ticket or possibly post over in Tech Support.

Already have! - did that and submitted a in-game ticket.

Could you have been silenced or squelched.

 I was thinking this…

It would likely let them know if they were silenced with a message, wouldn’t it?

Thats just it the OP hasnt said if he got any error message.

Step back, take a breath, and slow your role just a little. I cannot tell you how many times people say they did a UI reset when all they did was a reload. Clarifying questions are important so it can be checked off the list.

Is it possible the communities(what g chat and bnet chat utilize) are having issues again like this morning?

Saw a thread a few hours ago on general with a title suggesting this could be the issue.

Having this problem as well. Did the same things the OP has done as well. However it’s only happening on ONE character for me. Just my rogue. No one else.
