Can't we just have an expansion without 100s of systems?

i cam concerned with more than one thing and big PvE groups is a higher concern than the game worlds.

when you proposed ME to try a different MMO, the topic’s concern stopped being my main concern.

The games I listed do this better. If you’re choosing not to try then because of raid size, that’s your prerogative, but

This is incorrect.

I call lies on that! How so? Go watch any video or read any website on any hunter, warrior, mage, druid and so forth for the ultimate build for BIS, conduit and all other adjustments we can make and guess what?!?!?!

I run those raids. I run those LFG’s and it never never drops! Caught up in a few weeks my butt! More like over 6 months.

You can have a carpal tunnel transplanted into your arm, maybe another bone or two… Yeah you can probably do that if you really want.

This is what people asked for.

People said, “can’t we have ways to advance our characters besides just getting gear?”

And Blizzard said, “okay”.

And now people are complaining because they got what they asked for.

Just got off the phone with Ion.
He said to tell you “no” OP.

I assume because the alternative is… nothing. All of the things we unlock and gain are all flavor purchases which make the game unique from expansion to expansion… the people that complain about “systems” are complaining about the wrong things. It’s not “systems” that’s the issue, it’s the acquisition or level of entry to those “systems” that’s the issue. Proof of this is Blizzard having to spot weld fixes into every major patch to major patch, because it’s the mode we acquire these things that’s the issue.

Should in game systems not exist, no absolutely not, because the alternative is… nothing and the same people complaining would still later complain that there isn’t enough to do or that the game is too boring. They won’t be happy either way, they’re just upset and don’t really understand why they’re upset. What should happen is that the systems put in place need to either change how impactful they are, or the modes that we acquire borrowed power needs to be changed.

I think borrowed power acquisition needs to work in relation to player retention rates. If we see people gloming onto WoW with every expansion launch, followed by a huge fall off in X months, then we know there’s a problem at X months. If we see complaints flowing in after major patches introduce new borrowed power, and we also see retention rates going down, we can also assume that maybe the current system isn’t super friendly to players, especially when they are probably infrequent subscribers.

Just my thoughts… at least that’s what I think I thought.

To these people, anything that is not levelling and gear drops is automatically a system.

Torghast? System.
Legendaries? System.
Reputation? System.
Having to make your own food? System.
Buying food off the AH? System.

You can see how they’ll easily arrive at “100s” /eyeroll.

Exactly.

These systems that so many people complain about function as continuous power grinds that makes more content available to more players over time.

If power is locked to just the players killing bosses…less skilled players would be stuck

By integrating systems that give gradual power, less skilled players are more likely to complete hard content (e.g. KSM & AOTC)

Here, I fixed that for you…

More systems = more time = more days played=more carries & more tokens purchased

Blizzard is in the business of playing the gullible , err I mean players.

Easily achieved with collectibles that have no influence on character power/abilities.

Not everyone will go for it, but not everyone goes for the extra power anyways. I haven’t upgraded my legendary past 235. Cba. not going to. Nothing new was really added to torghast, so why would I go back? It was my mistake for subscribing again.

Only if you assume that Blizzard’s entire business model relies on their players being so bad at the game that they have to pay others to play it for them.

Which is a ridiculous assumption.

No. And there will be even more systems in the next expansion than there was in Swallowitlands.

I’m not so sure of that.

  1. There has been a huge backlash against the Legion, BFA, SLs game design

  2. Blizz has changed game design philosophy 3 times now with 3 x-packs in each style. There is a good chance we will move into gen 4 with 10.0

Not sure what gen4 would be, though.

Having optional (non-character-power) stuff like anima-for-cosmetics got a huge backlash.

Zereth Mortis, where the things you get only work in the zone, is probably going to get a huge backlash. The same people complaining about “raid or die” just aren’t going to bother with Zereth Mortis because it doesn’t make them more powerful outside of Zereth Mortis.

People asked for ways to improve their characters besides gear, but hated everything about what they got.

Blizzard’s just stuck. Their best bet is to ignore places like General Discussion and just make the game for people who are actually going to play it.

Except its working in reverse now…less subs, less $$, more players moving to FFXIV and other games. Only reason its stopped is due to sales stopping cause of server congestions and being too popular.

That hasn’t been true for a few weeks now. Server queues have been low for a few weeks now

While popular, FF14 loses a huge chunk of their player base after the story is completed.

Really it’s an over-reliance on it, kinda feels like a ‘‘let’s throw things at the wall and see what sticks’’ approach. It’s clear they don’t understand how to move away from the template of legion or so. They just think giving you X, Y things compounded is fun because you can work on stuff without them needing to do more content.

It’s just some don’t get why these ideas failed.

Do power systems → people complain they need to do it to be competitive.
Do cosmetic only → people complain that they set the price so a growing number don’t feel like spending all expansion getting a few things.

My observation is, Blizzard is yolo’ing it. And don’t have any idea of what can make this IP truly enjoyable.

Problem being is Riot is creeping up and they may implement and make use of where Blizz is failing. And that is the ability to pick up the game and jump in to enjoy what you want to enjoy ~ as well as a more coherent world in the ebbs and flows of what players do.

Watch out Ion :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Not true, ques are 3k+ on my server during evenings. It’s still very bad, I know from personal experience.
