I keep getting “somthing went wrong with a file” everytime I click update.
HOTS was able to update fine but WoW is giving me problems

I had the same error-- It turned out that “World of Warcraft Voice Proxy” was still running in the background, preventing WoW from updating.
On Windows, hit Ctrl+Shift+Esc to bring up the Task Manager, and then sort the processes alphabetically to find that voice proxy. Right click on it and choose End Task.
Try updating again after that.

i had the same error, check to see if you have world of warcraft voice proxy running, then try again, its what caused mine not to update.

Not the 1st time I’ve had trouble related to voice, and I don’t even use it. Wish you could keep it from automatically being on; most people I know use Discord anyway.

Hello! I’m trying to update my game to the 8.2.5 version. I’m having issues updating and the reason stated in the launcher is Error Code BLZBNTAGT00000840. Can someone help me? I already submitted a ticket, but I’m afraid it may take a while.

Thanks for your reports! I moved a few similar reports here as well to keep things on one thread.
This has been a known issue with World of WarCraft, but the workaround for what Fizzer posted should help most BLZBNTAGT00000840 errors for WoW!

I’m getting the same issue. I tried ^^ but voice proxy isn’t running so I’m at a loss, 30 min before raid…sigh. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Mine also would not update because of the World of Warcraft Voice Proxy.
Once I found it and hit end task ,Warcraft updated without a problem.
An option to disable voice proxy would be nice.
Same here. Voice proxy isn’t showing up on my list anywhere and this is a battle I’ve been fighting with the game all weekend. It does it to me on BfA as well as classic. I’m stuck in an endless loop of scan/repairs until one of them randomly works. Then if I log out and go to log back in it all starts again.
Had the same issue here. Boy, it would be great if I could disable this thing I never use that runs when the game isn’t running and keeps me from being able to download a patch!
logged in without the launcher and the game is streaming updates while im online

This is happening to me as well. Tho the fix above isn’t working for me. I have no Voice Proxy keeping it from updating. Something else seems to be wrong. Iv updated my drivers and checked every possible fix that I know of.
Thank you very much! I would have not even thought to look for the Voice Proxy as it’s not something I use.
On the other hand, the update was awfully bad timing on Blizz’s part as I had been playing off and on all day, & of course I get DCd as I was surrounded by mobs.
