Can't UPDATE Can't Play, Can't Do anything in Battle net

Keep getting Error Code : BLZBNTAGT00001389 since the patch or whatever yesterday. Restarting and all the little steps it suggests doesn’t work. I’m on PC. WoW is installed on external hard drive. Is that why? How do I actually fix it? This is really annoying.

What os?

Here is the support page to go over for self help.

It could be the drive, how is it connected, what kind of drive?

Do you have an open SATA port to add an internal SSD?

I’ve got WOW installed on a Steam Deck, and am getting the error BLZBNTAGT00000840 since the plunderstorm update, also when trying to update or to reinstall the game. I even removed and reinstalled the launcher, no luck. Seems very likely our prpblems are connected.

Same error here, Blizz borked the update servers.

Based on what I saw in other threads I changed my compatibility from Proton Experimental to 8.0.4 and now I’m making install progress. It looks like you may have to try a few versions till something works.

I also noted this with different versions of Linux distro, but technically only windows and macos are supported.

I have found a solution for those with Linux, getting the BLZBNTAGT00000840 error, after the Plunderstorm update.
I am running Linux Mint 22, and Lutris, with Steam installed.
I found that if I went to:

  1. RightClick on Battle.Net, in Lutris.
  2. Select Configuration
  3. Go to the Runner Options Tab
  4. Select Proton - Experimental, from the Wine version
  5. Save
  6. Relaunch Battle.Net

I had to log into Battle.Net again, but Retail WoW works again.
Hope this helps, and I found the information first on a post in the EU WOW forums.

Im having the issue with the error BLZBNTAGT00000840 when i try to install BattleNet in my Mac M3 Sequoia

I recommend visiting the forum for Bnet Mac issues:

There is a Mac thread on this issue, and you are, unfortunately not alone on problems for the Mac version.

same issue with battle net launcher on my computer running 2.39.0.15212, i noticed it is changing the install folder to Read only permission the error log shows errors like this [E 2025-01-17 04:21:03.0745] AgentAsAdmin failed to fix the file permissions of ‘Z:/media/steam1/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/World of Warcraft/Data/wow_classic_era/0e00000002.idx’

edit. ps.
previous versions of the battle net launcher would change the write permissions on update preventing the next update but before all you had to do was use chmod to fix them and it would update.

Thanks, that fixed for me!
