Can't Trade a 400 staff even when my MH and Offhand is 410

Personal loot at it’s finest…

Item upgrades are recorded on a spec-specific basis. If you got the MH and OH while in Shadow and got the staff while in Disc or Holy, the game will think it’s an upgrade for the second spec.

No, it doesn’t make a lot of sense. But hopefully, this information helps you dodge this in the future.

Actually is depending on what you have.

This example Malyx puts down has nothing to do with spec, but more with the fact personal loots is based in if you have a same type weapon or not.

With this Shaman i have a MH and a OF 415, got a 415 staff and cant give because i didnt had a 415 staff which is really dumb.

A 2h is considered a separate slot than a 1h and OH.

It’s really not that hard to comprehend.

No different than the fact a hunter can’t trade a Bow that drops that’s ilvl400 if they have a 410 Polearm Equipped. Ranged weapons are a different slot than 2h Weapons.

Just equip the 400 Staff, and the next 400 staff that drops you can trade.

Is it just 1H, 2H, or OH specifically, then? Most of my characters don’t run into this, but I’m also melee, so even on my Rogue and DK, there’s not a lot of weapon slot variation outside of a few weapon types.

To Further Explain This:

All Characters have FOUR Weapon Slots in their data, but only 2 are visible to simplify the character pane. Before Cataclysm, we could see 3 of them. (2 Melee Weapons and a Ranged/Relic Slot)

They have Main Hand, Off Hand, 2-Handed, Ranged. Each Weapon Type accesses specific slots, and as such, those are the ones that are affected by what you can trade.

The think is that a sword, a mace or a glaive are still one hand weapons so they all count as the same.

Meanwhile in this case a Mace count as a one hander, a shield as an off hand and you got OH that are count as a “helf in off hand” which is a different too. And then you get a staff that is a Two hand weapon.

Let’s say you got 400 ilvl of each so if you get another 400 you can trade, but if one is less that 400 you can’t trade.

Is weapon specific.

Right, that’s what I meant by OH.

1H weapons/items can go in either hand. 2H take both. OH exclusively goes in the Off Hand.

Sounds like we’re on the same page now – if you’re right, that’s… well, sillier than I originally anticipated. Sounds like a more technical limitation than what I initially thought, so it’s a bit more excusable… but still silly.

This is a long way of saying Personal Loot is a trash system.

Its called Blizzard polish, its garbage “Everything can happen omegalul” like this that separate Blizzard game from other normies game.

I guarantee it’s intentional otherwise it could be abused.

No, this is a long way of saying it’s a system that is telling you that the game thinks you need an item for an offspec.

And often times, it’s right. It’s rare that all 3 specs for mages will use the same stat priority.

As such, that 400 staff you have may actually be better than the 410 MH/400 OH you have for one of your specs, for instance.

And if you have like a 425 MH/425 OH, and you still have a 400 Staff you cant trade, you’ve been having very bad luck with getting staves to drop.

Ok so the game decides what specs I need to play and not me? Got it.

More like the game decides what items you can give away and not give away. IMO, that’s pretty pisspoor design. Taking away player agency is almost always bad design. It’s fine to limit the ability of players to prevent people from getting loot. It’s not fine to limit the ability of players to assist people with getting loot.

Not sure if Maizou is trolling or not, but…

Indeed if you have a MH and OH and you get a 2H it counts as if you never had a 2H to begin with… It’s a mind-boggling stupid system that has left me feel bad a couple of times already as I couldn’t help a friend out by giving him the loot I didn’t need, despite MH and OH having better stats…

But err… Welcome to Modern WoW I assume?

Actually no, this is weapon type. I’ve always been affliction and could not trade a 415 1 hander that dropped off first mythic boss even though i have a 415 staff.

Not being difficult to comprehend does not make it any less stupid.

This entire system is stupid.

But hey, I have a roomate who’s brother’s coworker read that on reddit 10 years ago someone got ripped off using masterloot.

So I guess its all justified.

Had the same issue on my priest. Got the mace from Opulence in LFR that Titan forged to 390. Had a 400 ilvl staff, some priest with a 330 mh begged me for it and I couldn’t give it to them!

I got it as a shadow priest i dont even play the other two specs lols

You missed the point entirely, this should NOT be how Personal Loot should work if you are going to force everyone into it. No one is having problems “comprehending it”, its just stupid.
