Can’t stay interested in this game for several reasons:
The older I’ve gotten the more I’ve seen through their various subscription padding schemes. The endless daily and world quest grind in Legion made me lose interest, along with the obnoxious random follower missions preventing progress on certain steps.
The gear treadmill just isn’t fun anymore. The stats are needlessly convoluted and make such a small difference unless you’ve devoted a month to nothing but one character and raids. I’m sure some people enjoy spending weeks farming one piece of gear just to switch from 400 mastery to 400 haste for a .10% increase in dps, but with 3 difficulties of raids and frequent raid/dungeon updates making gear irrelevant faster than you can obtain an optimal set, is this really necessary?
The endless “reworks” from talent revamps every expansion, to level or stat squishes, to spell reworks. It’s not new, it’s not fresh. It’s just the same stuff shuffled around every expansion and thrown as a bullet point on the box to make it look shiny and new. Sure, the level squish alters the leveling experience, but what does it also do? Pads out the same abilities we’ve had for nearly two expansions? Over multiple levels so they can add some grindy covenant ability that makes minimal impact and will have no meaning moving forward in the game.
This is probably the biggest factor, but it’s the community. The community in this game is the worst I have ever experienced. I’ve never bothered with raids or end game content because the thought of turning on voice chat and listening to someone have an aneurism over a missed mechanic or a dps benchmark not getting hit and proceeding to humiliate each other is nauseating.
Add that to the fact that you apparently can’t do a single transmog run without someone kicking you and saving you to an instance because you’re not pressing time warp (when the boss already dies in 2 minutes) is just sad.
I imagine this post will be followed with 10 comments of “git good” and “newb” arbitrary, predictable, insults or “ok give me your stuff.” Because it seems that 80% of the people playing this game are just emotionally stunted 12-50 year olds that have spent more time obtaining pixels in a video game than real life goals realizing their life is now halfway over and they now have nothing to show for it.
To those of you that can relate, I encourage you to find another avenue of enjoyment that isn’t plagued with self-loathing willfully blind elitists.
Legion was a great expansion because of its story, but the general design behind the game from the class reworks making pretty much every class feel like some generic arcade simulator to obvious needlessly grindy stat values and daily gating, has gone down tremendously over the past few years. Personally, I believe that the current game design has done nothing but further amplify the toxicity of this community. It’s just that some of these people are too blinded by their desire to improve their virtual, meaningless, avatars that they either can’t see it or choose not to.
Anyway, I know this won’t mean anything to the vast majority of the forum goers because the end result will be, “git good nub,” “haha you salty,” or “okay good. don’t play. send me your gold.”
But this is just the perspective of someone that’s been playing since slightly before Burning Crusade and has seen many iterations of the game. I was once highly addicted, entranced, and enveloped in this game. I’m glad I grew out of it and learned to see things clearly. I hope some of you do as well before you wake up and realize that you’ve wasted your life playing a game designed to be as predatory and manipulative as possible and, given the amount of asset and rig resuse over the years, as cheaply as possible. I honestly can’t even believe this game still charges 15 dollars a month. lul
This is some dark pessimism honestly.
I normally would feel relief for people realizing a break in habit, but you really have some demons to tackle between this community and the intent of this game huh?
Its simple though.
When the systems meant to hook you instead frustrate you, its time for a break.
You either break until your perspective resets and you see things with fresh eyes again, or you move on for good and are happy with your decision.
Its really a win win, in my experience.
I hope the time will be pleasant for you though, as I can tell that there are a lot of things bothering you with the community.
Not good to let that eat at you.
I could pull this thread apart and invalidate so many different fallacies the OP stated, but … I’m tired and gotta work in a few hours.
So … OP … to summarize my thoughts: I disagree with you and think you’re upset cause something happened in game so you felt the need to come and make your thread with a lot of passive aggressiveness toward not only Blizzard, but also the players who are still enjoying the game.
Maybe you’ll continue playing (more likely than not) and maybe you won’t. Either way, take it easy.
gamers are known to be toxic for a reason ya in so many games besides wow. matter of fact you look at the big picture the whole internet is nothing but toxic. they never made you play this game for as long as you did your choice.
you act like wow is the only one cutting corners to get stuff done as cheap as they can, every game made does that, every business out there does that, just like you doing everything you can irl to save money.
This is pretty true OP. You start going into a downward spiral when it comes to negativity. You should take a step back and reevaluate things at a later time.
I agree with most of what you have to say. But first, a positives.
I was not looking forward to the level squish. But I have found that it is not that bad and the Chromie Time mechanism has been really good to allow me to pick and choose my favourite zones for levelling alts. I don’t see though why the expansion is for 10 levels. it seems out of scale for the rest of the levels.
I don’t do group content for the reasons stated by the OP. I have also been in a number of guilds over the years and my experience has been that while it is a levelling guild everything is fun. Once the raiders step in, it goes to crap and it becomes a clicky little group and if you are not in the group your progression goes nowhere.
The new expansion has nothing for me. I played a bit in beta and found the zones to be bleak, difficult to navigate and not fun at all. There is no sign of pathfinder so I’m going to assume Blizzard is going to time gate it again. I’m not paying close on $80 for that. A half price sale when pathfinder is near might get me in but otherwise, nope. Once I finish getting my alts to 50 I’ll be done.
Power to those who are looking forward to the expansion but for me the game has become stale so I’ll be off too.
