I just learned that you can no longer solo old 25 man raids when trying to farm transmog from Ulduar, what a remarkably stupid update. Blizzard fix it. Nobody wants to farm old content anymore, I shouldn’t have to spend weeks putting together a PuG for content that is over a decade old!
You sure about that? I was getting a special mount and had to go into Ulduar as part of the chain. Walked right in and killed the bosses I needed. Also have ran several other raids attempting to get mount drops, this week.
Yep, sure. Some 25man Algalon stuff, gone when they did this.
Also made it take WAY longer to get the ole leggo mace. It happened with they made it part of the Timewalkings.
what an entitled and gross attitude. yuck yuck yuck.
Unless something was changed very recently your statement is incorrect.
The loot tables were consolidated to include both 10 and 25 man loot. Setting your difficulty to 10 or 25 won’t change what drops in either direction. It has been like this for years.
It’s been like that since WoD*
Old raids (MoP and prior) have always allowed you to choose your raid size between 10 and 25 man. I forget the raid, but WoD introduced flex raiding which tailors loot at Normal / Heroic levels to whatever your group size is, and Mythic is set at 20.
Aka you can’t 10 man prog / mythic raid anymore, and this made a lot of people upset.
I haven’t been into the old raids in a bit, but unless something changed we’ve always been able to set it to 25 man and get 25 man loot drops from old raids.
Nobody asked your opinion.
it’s a fact.
Shut up dork
make me, scrub

It was actually 7.3.5 in Legion*

No, not always. Since 7.3.5 in Legion, Ulduar was changed into a flex style raid and it’s loot tables were consolidated.

And again, you are mistaken. Since 7.3.5 in Legion, you can set the difficulty to whatever you want in Ulduar, and it won’t matter. It will say that it is 10 man, but drop any combination of 10 or 25 man loot.
Ultimately, the assertion that you can’t farm 25 man transmog is false. If the OP is actually upset that you can’t actually do the 25 man difficulty solo, technically that’s true, but I’m not sure if it matters if you’re one shotting a 10 man boss or one shotting a 25 man boss.

The small clarification of course being that the consolidated loot table made getting any particular drop that much more annoying.
I’ve only infrequently been doing Ulduar on any character, usually only if I’m waiting on something and they’re an Engineer who can port there, but I believe I’ve seen a lot of the hard mode chests dropping just plain gold as well recently.

Yes and no
SoO did introduce a flex mode (which is current normal), but it was the WoD pre-patch that made the changes to the following
MoP → WoD
LFR (25) → LFR (10-25, will try and fill up to 25 whenever possible)
Flex (10-25) → Normal (10-30)
Normal (10/25) → Heroic (10-30)
Heroic (10/25) → Mythic (20)
SoO was still the “current” raid at that time but WoD prepatch began the WoD patch cycle. And prepatches do bring in UI and other changes that are features of that expansion.

No, not always. Since 7.3.5 in Legion, Ulduar was changed into a flex style raid and it’s loot tables were consolidated.
Correct, when Ulduar became a timewalking raid. Firelands also got this treatment in BFA when it became a timewalking raid. It also allowed you to do both normal and heroic firelands on the same character for that week.

The small clarification of course being that the consolidated loot table made getting any particular drop that much more annoying.
For sure. If the complaint was just that it’s obnoxious to have 2 full loot tables on every boss when you’re just trying for one specific drop I would understand completely. But claiming that 25 man transmog is impossible is just flat out wrong.

It’s been a long time since I was in Ulduar, but that doesn’t sound like something that should ever happen. I know that I never once failed to get a loot drop from a hard mode chest. (Whether it was what I wanted is another story of course).
Funnily I happened to be in Ulduar when I opened this site and saw this post.
That has to be broken. I would bug report that every time it happened. It’s bad enough to be hoping for the right drop on a consolidated loot table in a chest that only drops one item at a time. To even have a chance at 0 items is not right at all.
It occurred to me that maybe they consolidated all the loot into one cache and maybe you got your hard mode loot in the regular cache, but a) that seems like a weird change to make, with lots of work and no payoff, especially to leave the gold and runed orbs in the hard mode cache, and b) in the Thorim picture I can see your Hodir loot in chat. There are 3 pieces, as there are supposed to be, and none of them from the rare cache.
There is no way this is intended. I hope you’re reporting it.
I probably reported it the very first time I saw it, but I’m definitely not reporting it as an ongoing thing. They’re almost definitely aware of the bug; it’s just probably sitting in a backlog somewhere because it’s not on their priority to be fixed.
AFAIK, it’s been working that way for at least years. I can’t offhand remember a time when it’s worked differently (correctly) since they did it for Timewalking, but I guess it’s possible it was broken subsequently. Not like I ever did Ulduar regularly
FWIW, the chests have dropped loot on different runs before, and on Mimiron in this run, the hard mode chest DID drop an item (Starshard Edge). So that rules out the consolidated part. None of the other bosses dropped hard mode loot.
If I had to guess, it’s that the drops are incorrectly calculating based on one player of Personal loot and not respecting the Legacy loot system.

I was in the middle of grinding Ulduar transmogs when they made the change, so I went from doing 10 and then 25 separately to 1 run per week with the consolidated tables. I finished gathering all the mogs after some number of months and stopped going, but I never experienced an empty chest, so I can only assume that it was broken subsequently.

I wonder if there were changes to Personal loot or Legacy loot made at some point after 7.3.5 that had unintended consequences with the Ulduar hard mode chests for some reason.
Ya something off in there since they tampered with it for the timewalking addition.
Like Thorim: always seem to get a 25 man helmet tier token, but haven’t seen any 10 man shoulder tokens. Guessing either it’s now just a random chance to get a shoulder token at all, let alone the one you need, or just flat out bugged.
Just got the empty hardmode Thorim cache minutes ago, 29g and no drops. The other chest dropped a 1h mace, ring, and 25man helm token.
Edit: Actually guess it could be worse. Took me 11 weeks + bonus rolls, on a mage, to get the Mythic Tomb of Sargeras tier gloves since they removed the tokens. Zzzz…
Lol, I have no problem one-shotting all of the bosses in Ulduar. It’s now a 10-man raid that also drops 25-man loot. It just now takes longer to get what you want.
