Can't See Ground Spells Area of Effect

iMac Desktop OS Ventura 13.0
Radeon Pro 575 4 GB
3.5 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
Built-in Retina display 27"
Add-ons are off

I am assuming that I don’t have a setting set correctly in-game as everything was working fine before pre-patch. I can not see ground spell areas of effect. For instance can’t see “Wild Spirits” when I drop it, but I can see a druid’s Efflorescence and a warlock’s personal portal. On Prototype Pantheon I couldn’t see the wind and dodge swirlies (Pinning Volley). On Rygelon couldn’t see the Collapsing Quasar field and could barely make out the unstable matter field to stand in during Massive bang. On Halondrus I couldn’t see the Earthbreaker Missiles aftershock effect but I could see the Beam. On Lords of Dread could not see the Slumber Cloud but could see Cloud of Carrion and Bursting Dread.

I would appreciate any help with the settings
Thank you

any help??

I can’t either with my paladin. As a matter of fact, in a fight with Antros, I couldn’t see myself and the sound effects came after the kill. Same computer.

I’m having the same issues. Ground effects for the most part are all missing. In a fight I sometimes can’t see myself. Sound effects happen WAY after they occur.

i imagine this was due to the non pre compiled shader cache. the new build that went out a while ago might fix it once patched up.

Same issue here. I didn’t change any graphic settings after the patch - not seeing most of the ground spells and sometimes I can’t see my character mid-fight either, which can be a big problem as a tank.

Also, the delay with the Sound FX is extremely annoying.

The game is just unplayable at the moment.

One user has already had success with it, i think some of you just need to wipe the data folder, then run repair, or install completely (both effectively same but former preserves settings and addons).

this will effectively defrag the data structures of wow so they don’t cause such massive performance issues on non SSD based macs.

Soooo if were all having these issues we just have to run the repair tool?

repair tool alone would do nothing. you need to go into wow folder, delete the data folder, THEN run repair tool, it’ll redownload entire game. it’s basically a reinstall but without losing settings/addons

Yea I did that, also deleted all my add-ons and cache. Still no luck. Would love a list of the graphic settings that should be used (that would be quite helpful)

I’m in the process of uninstalling and reinstalling to see if that works. I’ve seen in other threads that it worked for other people so fingers crossed.

Sigh. I was hoping to not to have to uninstall and reinstall. But going to give that a try. As I have other issues with the game besides not seeing the ground effects. Extremely LONG loading screens. Heck the Horseman was almost dead by the time I loaded into the dungeon. And slowing increasing Memory usage by the game. Not sure what to do next if this doesn’t work.

It didn’t do anything for me lol, maybe I did it wrong though. I just used the battle net tool to uninstall and reinstall rather than manually deleting stuff

didn’t help me any either lol. It would be helpful if they had a “suggested” settings list for the graphics /shrug

It’s a little better after that but I can’t get to SW. Crashes every time now.

are all of you on HDD macs or SSD?

I believe mine is SSD - Here is some info

I completely uninstalled and re-installed the game - While that has helped “some” with the “increasing Memory usage” I still can not see ground spells.

It isn’t an SSD. That’s a fusion drive, which is a spinning platter HD with a small SSD cache area. Unfortunately for the purposes of WoW that cache is so small it can’t contain even half of WoW’s files and since the OS files are more likely to have been cached there (as you need the OS to boot and thus run the OS constantly), you’re seeing almost the full effect of CASC and APFS on a very slow platter based drive.

@ Tiapriestess I have no idea what you just said. I am NOT a tech expert. I know the game ran just fine until the pre-patch. As stated in the posts above. I am trying to get help from the WOW Techs. The reason I said “I believe” is it said " APPLE SSD SM0032L" So I wasn’t sure ergo the reason I posted some of my iMac’s information. I’m just trying to be able to see the ground effects like I did before prematch.

He said “it isn’t an SSD.”
