Can't run many apps when running Wow, or vice versa

When wow (10.0.5) is running I am unable to run many other apps. It seems to be a problem mostly with hardware accelerated chromium based applications (chrome, discord, slack, vs code) . As soon as I alt tab into them they will either freeze completely or turn black, while firefox with hardware accel works fine. I’ve tried all the steps on the wow black screen support page with no luck.

On the flip side sometimes the hw accel app will work fine but Wow will lock up, either crash or go to about 1 frame per 15 seconds. Its as if one or the other is taking priority even though GPU is at about 30% utilization.

Turning off hardware acceleration fixes the problem with the chromium based applications but IMO this isn’t a solution - I am running rtx 3090/ ryzen 5950x it should not be a problem to run multiple hw apps at once. Can’t use discord while playing, can’t use chrome while playing to visit wowhead, watch videos, etc.

I don’t have that issue and I run Chrome, discord lots of apps while playing the game. I also have a 3090 and a 5950x. I don’t have to turn off hardware acceleration while playing either and I have lots of things open while playing the game. Maybe another program/app you have is causing an issue with chrome being open while you are gaming.

Post a DXdiag so we can look at what’s going on with the computer.

It’s a driver issue mostly and has a lot to do with the Windows MPO(multiplane overlay) system. Tends to mostly only affect people running mulitmonitor setups and when they are mixed refresh rates like 144hz and 60hz.
