I recently deleted my character and wish to restore it but someone took my name. I get a error message saying that I already have an active character with that name and I cant restore at this time. Any way to fix this?
-This is on anniversary realm
I have reached out to customer support and they told me I can not restore my character until the active player who has my name deletes it. They said they are assuming a friend of mine took the name for me. I don’t know who the person is who has my name and nothing on blizzards sites regarding this issue says the active one must be deleted. It clearly says I have to rename the character during the restoration process but it doesn’t even let me go this far
I’d try the customer service forum, you might get better help there.
Also put in a ticket if you haven’t.

I was going to put a ticket but the blizzard site says that customer support does not deal with character restoration 
I recently put a ticket in to have a character restored, if there is an actual issue like that then they will help. You just may have to reopen it if you get the copy paste how to restore your character prompt first
if it’s “you” that has a character with that name active, then there’s nothing you can do unless you delete them both and choose which to restore. I have thorough past experience with this back when i multiboxed 25 accounts.
if it’s saying “a character on this realm with that name already exists” then it will let you restore and your character will have a random name, but this clearly doesnt seem to be the case, so either it’s the former and you are mistaken or you’re bugged and need to contact a GM in game with a ticket.
Could also be a third problem, in which you’re trying to restore a character on a realm that is Faction blocked temporarily while you have no other characters active. It gives a weird error message, instead of clearly telling you the faction is blocked due to population balance. Had this recently, but only occurs when you delete all your characters on that account and then try to restore one on an overpop faction (retrying when the factions open again solves this issue).
Can you be more clear about the message?
Do you have other characters active?
Check their names?
Have you went in game to /who the character name? Check their level? offer gold?
Contact a GM to name change the deleted character, Customer support forum blues have done this before.
Why am i not a green MVP yet?
That’s… weird. When that happens you normally just get a prompt to rename your character to something else. I’ve never heard of a character restore being blocked by someone scooping your name.
I’d still try the CS forum. The folks who answer tickets tend to give really vague and/or useless explanations of issues but if someone on the CS forum engages, I’ve noticed they give really good explanations. It might not be the answer we want but it’s usually a lot more detailed and understandable than what you get from the ticket system.
I swear, I’ve had one good interaction from that system in the last decade
