Can't rescue souls in The Maw as demo?

On a few different attempts I tried to complete the Return Lost Souls quest in The Maw, but I could never see the souls. The stone prisons would not yield one when destroyed. I had been completing the quest each week on another character, but I could not get it to work for this warlock.

When I switched from demo to affliction the stone prisons immediately started yielding souls to rescue. Is this a fluke or a bug others have run into? I tried dismissing the felguard but continue to attempt it as demo, but it still did not work.

It’s random, I’ve swapped between all three specs during my playtime and randomly no souls would release from the stone prisons.

Instead I opted to rescue soils from the…river…thing.

They’re in the open and ready to pick up, it’s just faster and more direct.

As demo I can’t get souls to show up if I have my Felguard or dreadstalkers out. but if I dismiss my Felguard and kill the stone without any pets they show up 100% of the time.

That’s what I’ve found as well. Just putting my Felguard on passive and shadowbolting the stone prisons to death also works for me.

Edit: I should also add get rid of all the other demons too. Implosion usually won’t kill it and will keep them from getting the kill.

I tried it without the felguard, but I did still have some imps and maybe dreadstalkers out when the stone prisons were consistently not yielding souls. I’ll give this a try for the next weekly reset.

Yeah like others said, if your pet lands the killing blow then the soul won’t spawn. Just another thing to add to the long list of reasons demo is a pain to play

This reminds me of that one bug for pet classes from a few years ago (that actually I don’t even know if it was ever fixed actually) where if your pet did 100% of the damage to an enemy you wouldn’t get any loot at all. I vaguely remember BM hunters being very confused after one-shotting low level bosses with kill command.

I was having this problem, breaking rocks and not seeing the soul. Then I noticed that another ranged class was behind me on some of the rocks and the soul was shooting out at their location. It was weird. Still there were some rocks with nothing.
