I’ve seen this with multiple professions but I’ll use Inscription as an example. I have a Rank 3 Silver Tongue’s Quill (the rare tool for Inscription) that I made some time ago. I wasn’t able to make a Rank 5 at the time, but figured I could recraft it later.
Well, later is here and I’m ready to recraft, but there’s no way I can reach Rank 5 without an Artisan’s Consortium Seal of Approval, which is the finishing reagent that adds 40 skill. I have none of those, and there’s no way to just “go get” one at will.
Here’s the weird thing… I could easily craft a new Silver Tongue’s Quill from scratch at Rank 5, but that would mean using another 300 Artisan’s Acuity rather than 20 for the recraft.
Bottom line: If I were to make a new tool, my total skill is 575. But to recraft an existing tool, my skill is 430. This makes no sense at all. Why is it this way and how do I get more skill for a recraft without waiting for a patron order that just happens to award a random item?
