Can't play a pure DPS class after "maining" hybrid classes

Idk what it is, I can’t stay interested. They just seem boring after 40 or so levels.

My first 60 was a hunter, first 70 was a warlock. After that I rolled a priest and never looked back.

Anyone have a similar experience? I must be crazy.

Feels like they design the game only for, and only with raids in mind.

So Hybrid classes just feel good to play in World Content. How I feel anyway.

It’s the reverse for me, hybrids can never break out of alt status. I’m always left with this feeling of, “why choose margarine when butter is available” if you know what I mean.

The healing and extra utility afforded by hybrids is nice but their DPS sides feel kind of watered down or otherwise awkward which kind of sours things.

I’m with you 100%. I cannot main a pure class after playing hybrids. My main is a priest with my alts being Shaman, Druid, and a monk.

I tried to break the mold and play BFA as a hunter and then I switched to a mage. I find it incredibly boring. I can only DPS so many times in a row before I need to change it up. I switched back to my priest and never looked back.

It’s nice to switch up to heals/tank for the lower queue times for everything if you that is important to you (which it is unless you are a very serious player).

The thing I don’t understand is people that play hybrids but refuse to play their secondary role. Shadow priests refusing to heal, etc. It is just crazy to limit your class that much.

Same here OP. I rolled mage many, many times. Oh my god, I can’t stand it. It’s so boring ccing and dpsing them down.

Went back to hybrid classes, I love them.

Yep, i have always mained a priest, and my second favorite class has always been druids. I did successfully raid on a mage in tbc but i had a tank druid alt.

It’s a lot of personal preference. I like utility and healers because i also love pvp, and pvp on pure dps is way too dependant on others.

Right now I’m leveling two hybrids…

Sorry, it’s just you.

My first main ever was a Mage. My second was this Shaman. I go back and forth between them regularly but this is still my main.

It’s a “you” thing.

I tend to maintain separate characters for that, I hate juggling gear/talents/etc.

EDIT: To be clear I’m fine with respeccing to offtank/offheal or otherwise act as a stopgap, but don’t expect 100% performance because I won’t have the gear for it.

I do have a similar experience, except the opposite.

I am a piss poor tank and healer. No really, in a scale of 1 to 10 in awful, I would be a 10,356,295.

So I roll DPS, even with hybrid classes. I am an awesome DPS>

I don’t REFUSE to heal, I’m just not good at it, so I try to avoid it if I can.

However, I love the class fantasy of Shaman overall, that’s why I play one. Closest thing this game has to a “battle mage”.

Depends on your playstyle. i mained mm in vanilla and switched in legion. Now i main rdruid but i also love unholy dk, because of a tanky pet/minion game style and dots. Takes a while to figure out what you really like.

I feel about the same. I also felt the same way after switching to druid… now I have multiple and want to make more…

Im in the same boat. I cant do anything but hybrids. Sometimes I want to Tank, sometimes I want to DPS, sometimes I want to Heal. Monk does all of these and is mostly good/average at them, but most of all its the most fun Class in the game to me atm, which is the most important.

It also helps that my want to play any and all roles means I get instant queues into mostly anything I want. Once you experience that level of freedom its very, very hard to go back to a one dimensional Class.

I’ve been playing this game too long for any spec to remain all that interesting for long…

So I play them all.

This is a nice aspect of my prot warrior, but I don’t capitalize on it as much as I’d like because the pug experience stinks as much as it does.

I’m right there with you. At this point any class that doesn’t have a tank and heal spec is essentially dead content as far as I’m concerned.

This has been my experience as well OP, I can never stick with pure DPS classes for long because of it even though I really wanna play them. I don’t even want to tank or heal, I just find pure DPS classes to be designed to be really boring compared to hybrid classes’ DPS specs.

Going to be honest, solo que times as pure DPS classes makes me want to stab my own face in with a spoon. They are fun solo, and farming, in a raid guild sure. Really wish they would just give me a damn tank spec, no one likes survival as it is, they could tune it to tank so easily. Sounds a lot more fun than 3 DPS specs. That no class really needs.
