The forums logged me out and forced me to relog which happens every so often. For whatever reason every time this happens it defaults logging me into some random character I don’t ever post from or play in-game and I have to swap to my normal forum character (which is the only character I ever post from).
Unfortunately this time that character is no longer in the very short list of characters it lets me pick from. I have dozens of characters on my account and it only shows 21 of them (and for some reason half of them are classic characters I haven’t played in a long time).
I tried re-logging several times and cleared cache/cookies but it just shows the same very short list of characters I’ve never used on the forums before instead of my character that has thousands of posts and a higher trust level.

Same issue. I can’t log in to my main character.
Maybe this is a sign to go to bnet posting ids, not character posting.
I’ve also tried logging into the forum character multiple times in-game, sometimes while logged out in the forums and cached cleared then after logging out of it in-game logging back into the forums but the short-list of characters available each time has not changed.
There appears to be no particular logic behind which characters it chose for the list. Most of them are characters I haven’t played in years. Many of them are a mix of SoD classic characters and Cata classic characters with a random mix of retail characters that I mostly don’t play.
Zero of them are characters I post on the forums with since I only post on one and it is not in the list.
I’ve also tried logging in with another browser and it looks like the same list of characters.
I’m not sure why in all these years they don’t have a set default forum posting character option so it just always logs us in with the same forum character.

and all my retail characters are gone.
because that probably would just make it so you wouldnt be able to log in at all if the forums are bugged like this.

Ah, I double checked and that does seem to be what the problem is. I thought a few of them were retail characters when I skimmed through based on their names but I guess I had some classic characters I don’t even remember making from a long time ago with the same names.
I’m guessing the bug reports from people who have no characters in their lists to post on just don’t have any non-retail characters at all so their lists are entirely empty. I guess this has been happening for years. My forced re-logs must usually happen when it’s not bugged.
