But we can have paladins + priests
Unholy is very close to a necromancer archetype already, both in theme and actual combat. Priests and Paladins just have a similar theme while fulfilling totally different combat roles. Ask for them to revamp Unholy if you want a Necromancer.
Good post.
Purely on the surface but they’re a far cry from a proper Necromancer. Besides, if Warlocks can get butchered to make way for Demon Hunters then Death Knights can get butchered to make way for Necromancers.
I disagree. It wouldn’t take much to be able to call the spec “Necromancer”.
That aside, are people asking for necromancer really asking to have a stampede of ghouls out all the time? Because if so, that is literally never going to be considered. Even BM Hunters don’t do that.
Unholy is trash for a “necromancer” spec.
Needs major changes and far more minions for that.
Necromancers were only considered all the way back in WotLK and were rolled into DKs
We need another mail wearing class before we need another clothie to be honest.
If they created Necromancers, they’d probably end up stealing something from Warlocks and stealing something from Warlocks would make Mortis mad and sad.
You can call any specialization whatever you like but you would have to try real hard to pretend Unholy is a Necromancer just because it happens to be vaguely reminiscent of one.
It’s funny you say “literally never going to be considered” because those words have been uttered and proved to be false countless times now.
All the more reason to do it!
I’m unsure of how Unholy isn’t the necromancer spec when they:
- Summon a permanent ghoul
- talent to summon additional permanent skeleton archer
- Summon 5 ghouls with Apocalpyse
- Summon AotD with 8ish Ghouls (or an Abom with talent)
- Gargoyle summon talent
And then have a bunch of disease spreading capabilities. (like my ex, wakka wakka!)
Let me rephrase your statement as a question for you to elaborate: What would you put in a Necromancer class that Unholy DKs currently don’t have?
considered may have been the wrong term, but it’s never going to happen. Having this big blob of minions on the target would just cause more lag than necessary for people on lower end computers and a ton of visual clutter for everyone to boot. There’s a reason Stampede is a long cooldown and not a passive staple of BM, and that reason is why you’re not going to get a “mass minion” style of Necromancer.
But they could focus on the ranged DPS aspects of DK. They could have different types of temporary minions. They could have a talent that automatically summons weak temp minions when something dies in combat. I hesitate to say it because Warlocks have already lost some of their identity to DH, but they could borrow they Imp-losion talent idea to get some burst DPS out of temp minions.
That’s all stuff that could fit under the Unholy banner. No reason for an entirely new class.
And also warlocks + dh’s.
so dead bodies instead of demons?
Eh Priests and Paladins are not to similar. I mean they share a theme in that Paladins and Priests channel the Light, but Paladins do so exclusively whereas Priests channel the Void as well.
Like I don’t really see how they can expand the Necromancer class to have more then one spec really. It is difficult to really fit it in a niche with the classes we already have.
I think it would be better just as a skin over on Warlocks. Class skins in general are a good idea to implement
lol@“you can’t have a class that has so many minions!” What do you think a demo lock is?
At this point I’d be satisfied if there was just a reskin of Demo to make it necro themed instead.
Yes.
There can be two horde classes. Mind blowing I know.
I guess you’ve never seen a Warlock use Nether Portal. It doesn’t have to be permanent and there are solutions to that particular issue that don’t simply involve not adding the class.
The same could’ve been said for Demon Hunters, yet here we are.
Unholy DK’s spread disease and decay. Necromancers is a form of magic that deals with the dead, summoning spirits and aparations, gaining power from the practices, etc. Necromancers aren’t really at all like Death Knights except they both kill things.
So remove diseases from Unholy death Knights, and aside from having only half a combat rotation, you have :
- Permanent pet.
- A short CD to make it bigger and hit harder.
- talent for 2nd permanent pet
- A short minute CD to summon up to 5 ghouls
- A 2 minute CD to summon a gargoyle
- A 10 minute CD to summon an army of them.
- A utility ability to mind control undead
- A utility ability to raise the dead in battle
Sounds pretty necromancy to me.
