Trying to do the Felcycle stuff, I have the key and standing infront of the catacombs instance and giant double door is blocking entrance. I can’t even see the portal. Yes I have my torch out. Yesterday I had to have a warlock put a portal down to go through door.
By the way I just tried my paladin and I was able to walk through the door and see the portal, dk is phased somehow.
Probably due to an old expansion questline you have or haven’t done. Usually Legion related. You might need to ask in the Customer Support forum if there’s a way to tell which quests might be blocking it and whether you need to drop or complete them.
The side door is the new Kara, the bottom one is BC

This. Which doesn’t even work anymore. 
This one is an instance. So if you land by the front door to Kara, but the go right of the door, drop into the ditch with the water, and follow it about 50 feet, there is an alcove entrance with a door. You have to use your torch to reveal the instance, and then walk through the bars. It brings you into the “mini” instance under Kara that looks like the old Legion Artifact spot with the winding stair cases.
Eventually, the path leads you into this room.
Oh neat. I haven’t been keeping up with the anniversary secrets stuff, figured I’d let it all come out then set aside an afternoon to just do it all.
I was not around for the DF stuff, so I did the same thing and spent 5 hours unlocking the Alpaca mount Pattie.

Yep! That’s what doors do.
That’s what I’ve been doing. I’d rather be able to just…do it all in one fell swoop.
I think you have to have the title Detective up (and have the key) to get through. At least, that’s what my Warlock had when he went through.
Do the Unholy Legion artifact questline.
I am having the same issue, Sometime I am able to fly in if there is lag but otherwise I cant get in.
I had this same issue.
3 NPC corpses outside the doors are to do with a BFA questline that involves going into the Catacombs with Wrathion. Turns out I started the questline but did not finish it, which is why I might have been phased. Once I finished the questline, the large doors disappeared.

I completed that storyline and still can’t get into the catacombs. There must have been some side quests or something that you did in addition to those 8?
Shout out to the secrets finder discord! I am just a silly, silly person. I didn’t have the torch toy buff on and that was a requirement to see the entrance. So if you’re like meeee, check that also lol
I am having this issue as well…i have detective title equipped, torch out, idol on, thinking cap on. I have definitely unlocked this previously and gone into the catacombs, and did at least the first pylon. I don’t know why i cant get the portal to show up again?
I just finished this… I’m pretty sure there’s no door in front of the grate where the portal appears if you’re holding the torch.
