Can't get back into WoW without some direction from Blizz

The title says it all. 15 years ago, the world of Azeroth felt amazing. We were exploring new lands, eager to see what the future held for us.

I’ve personally never played an MMO game that was re-released, so I’m not sure what to expect here. People are saying it’s a museum game. Others are saying it will follow the course of TBC and then WotLK (which I doubt).

The bottom line is, Blizz, you HAVE to give us some sense of where this is going. I can’t honestly commit weeks to level to 60 (again) only to find out that there are no plans to do much after Naxx.

Speculation is running rampant and it’s your job to let us know. We are your customers and considering you had minimal work to re-release this (and tripled your subbed user base in the process), I don’t think it’s too much to ask where this is headed.

Servers are already taking massive population hits and I can understand why. We’ve all been here before. This isn’t new. And it’s not nearly as exciting as it was 15 years ago. But it COULD be. Just tell us what we can expect.

I just really hope this wasn’t yet another Bobby Kotick cash grab…

I thought it was pretty well known that classic wow is a museum specifically in the classic era AKA before the expansions. I could be wrong because I haven’t looked too much into it. I imagine if they plan on going into TBC and/or WOTLK they will launch new servers for that.

This is not Classic+ There’s no post Naxx

Must be a bad museum if it’s so easy to spot and criticize all that they’ve changed and continue to change

Didn’t say it as a good piece. Still, they’re keeping it as in tact as they can. From what I gathered, its going to remain p6 indefinitely. They may make new servers for a Classic+, TBC, or just reset to P1.

The toons we play with now, are parts of the museum. Assume these servers will never get past P6.

Except we don’t know that. Nobody has bothered to say one way or the other. That’s the problem. Not to mention, I have serious doubts that ActiBlizz would scrap a money making IP just because they had nothing after Naxx besides TBC.

They did say. Feel free to catch up with all the BlizzCon videos and interviews and found it for yourself.

If we get anything it will be a TBC realm option. Not Classic+

Blizzard said classic would remain classic themselves and has no plans to add new content for it

This is not a new game. It is an opportunity to play the old game. Play it if you’d like. It’s fun. Play it a lot, play it just a few days and then move on, whatever floats your boat. This is not a new game. If you want a new game, those threads go in general discussion, not classic general discussion.

Well in that case I guess I’ll unsub. Classic was great, but it was only great because of the time it was released. People were EAGER for MMOs. And they had a lot of good ones to not only compare it to, but also to get them primed for WoW.

DaoC, UO, Horizons, plus many others. There were a lot of decent games that pre-dated WoW and the era was ripe for MMOs. But now, not so much.

I guess I just figured that a company would be interested in boosting and preserving the IP that made them who they are.

I’m honestly shocked that they have chosen to let this die after Naxx.

Then do not commit. People have been playing this game since its launch almost 15 years ago. They managed to enjoy the game for over a decade with what was available. Just because you do not find yourself able to enjoy a game that has an “end” content wise does not mean blizz has to create something fresh.

Quite frankly they did that and its what you call BFA now and its quite frankly abhorrent. Just like with any tv show or book series or even any game series… if you keep just making things for the sake of it eventually the quality will suffer.

So just take classic as it is, there is enough to do to keep you busy for years to come and if it isnt enough play smth else.

As we all know, greatness is determined solely by mob appeal.

Blizzard has already made its position quite clear:

Classic is a museum piece and despite all the crying, will be left alone as is.

No mystery… all of the begging for more features will be ignored, because that is what Blizzard promised. An authentic museum piece.

Whether legacy servers are released for the other expacs as well has neither been addressed nor commented on by Blizzard.

Just enjoy the game and don’t worry about it. You don’t have to make any life-altering decisions here.

Well, the game has now been live for one month. If you’re investing even just weeks, you’ve already got your money’s worth. If you’re enjoying it, you’ve got your money’s worth.

Do tell: What game, a month post-launch, do you know exactly what’s happening after all the DLC (or in this case, phases) is released years down the road?

If you want to justify not playing to yourself that’s fine, whatever, but this is not a good reason to complain.

So you can’t invest 2-4 weeks to get level 60 for a 1.5-2 year pay off??

Seems like good odds to me

You play the game, you have your fun.

Why make it more complicated than that?

I just re-upped for 60 days. That’s my committment and I expect 60 days of fun. Hopefully more after that.

Being entirely honest here and not facetious, but that sounds like the best option. This isn’t a platform to innovate, fix, improve, or otherwise “add” anything to. It’s only ever been billed as a return to vanilla (as best as Blizzard is able/willing to replicate). Anything beyond that, you’re setting yourself up for a horrible time.

I plan to still be playing Classic WoW years from now, on different alts, still enjoying the ride up through 60 and the vanilla raids. I don’t want or need “new” or “past Naxx”. In fact, anything beyond Vanilla would make me unsub.

To that end Classic WoW is marketed towards folks closer to me, and not towards folks looking for any sense of progression.

Honestly, I assume that ALL games will have updates and new content unless they tank. Hell, even UO is still up and running with new stuff going on. And that game is almost 25 years old.

We all know how bad Retail WoW is. And we all know WHY. But for all of you who are on your high horses talking about “getting your money’s worth” I’ve already been there. I got my money’s worth the first go round.

As a businessman, however, I can’t sit back and say this is a good move. At least not for the consumer base. It was a brilliant move by Activision to triple its user base without having to rewrite much of anything, though.

I guess I’ll just take my business elsewhere. There are loads of games that have far superior pve and pvp elements. I just figured Blizz would be a little more creative, but it looks like this really was just a cash grab. Oh well.

Don’t want it? Don’t play. Many if not most ppl here, are just happy being able to play a game they loved and rediscovered they still love. If that is not enough for you, that’s on you.
