Can't Disable XP Gains On Level 60+ Characters

Level 60+ characters are unable to turn off XP. This has been confirmed not to be a bug and working as intended as per the support article linked above.

Can we get any explanation as to why this is?

AND >. here we are STILL waiting for a response … What a joke.

I dropped all my quests on 2 toons, been waiting 2+weeks assuming it was jsut me, and now have open tickets … which will prove useless - There is ZERO reason for this - NONE . No Justifiable reasoning … what is blizzard doing?!

Words cant even begin to describe the amount of disgust i have for how little regard blizzard has for its own game now; and how Strongly they are opposed to doing Anything about it.

Hello - Blizzard?

Hey Clapincheeks!

This is a anti-twink measure, preventing players from pausing progression. In the past players would pause progression and gear out, enchant, and gem to the max. Then proceed to group with others doing the same.

Then a group of “twinks” would Q into BGs or participate in some PvP with a huge advantage over the average player leveling through the game.

Blizzard has long considered this activity against the best interest of the game and take precautions to disable this “twinking”.

Very kindly blizzard allowed twinks to fight other twinks in a XP locked only Q. But as you can imagine this significantly dropped the Twink player base.

You are now left to fight other twinks or level to max.

Not saying you are twinking or trying to by locking xp, but your inability to do so is a direct result of previous twinkers and blizzards battle against such activity.

There is one and only one right way to play the game. All other variations including any individuality is considered degenerate behavior. Failing to immediately rush to max level and begin grinding boring content is one of these that needs to be eradicated to ensure uniformity of behavior and thought among players.

You have already been assimilated.

Actually, during BfA, when they first brought up eliminating xp off 110+, there was a lot of backlash. The reasons given were:

  1. Twinks were not leveling up to max to start grinding chores. This was wrong, degenerate behavior that had to be eradicated.
  2. Twinks were selling powerleveling carries. This was cutting into the income of mythic raiders and needed to be stopped.

No mention was made of PvP. But clearly you and others of your ilk feel it is degenerate behavior for players to care about having good gear while leveling, and this needs to be stamped out. Levelers should only have crap gear and should not care about gear at all.

“Now care”.

Hey Murder carpet!

Not sure if you are speaking to me or in general. If it’s to me, I will say I don’t have any skin in this game. I don’t twink, I do enjoy the latest content. Currently dragon flight, it’s a great expansion imho.

If it’s a general statement to blizzard and other players, I would say, I hope you still have a way to enjoy the game with your friends.

You seem more educated on the subject than myself, I was just giving some background to the OP.

I don’t work for blizzard, nor do I campaign against twinks.

I see you are passionate about this subject, much more so than myself. I hope you and blizzard can meet in the middle on this issue , allowing both parties the best outcome.

I’m curious about this too. I wanted to leave one of my duplicate-class characters at 60 and experience dragon isles that way.

The reason they probably did it is because you get weaker as you quest from 60-70. Finishing all questlines would be far easier on a level 60 with good 9.3.5 gear.

I got -this- reply from Blizzard when i opened a ticket .

Specialist Game Master Inuwynn at your service!
Now looking over your ticket here I understand you’re wanting to report that you cannot disable your XP gains here.

Now we can most certainly understand your concern here! So, it is not possible to turn off experience for characters that are level 60 or above. For characters level 59 and below, visit Behsten in Stormwind or Slahtz in Orgrimmar to turn off experience gain.

This was a game design that the development team felt was best for the game. If you do believe that you should be able to disable your XP at level 60 or higher please do let them know by posting on the World Of Warcraft forums. =)

So, this is clearly an intentional choice by Blizzard , and clearly they dont want to tell us WHY , once again they are disallowing something that many enjoy.

Sigh

It’s unfortunately because of twinking and their scaling in-game. Just causes to many problems.

Sorry it’s affected you and your playstyle I’m sure that’s frustrating.

I just don’t think you’ll get enough people complaining about it to change it back. Most people only care about current expansion stuff. The rest of the game is bloat.

Wow  yet again another vague answer.

“This was a game design that the development team felt was best for the game.”

The big burning question is … why?

What problems exactly?

I wish I could. I stopped trying to make sense of the ilvl scaling in this game and what it does to abilities at lower levels.

Nothing is balanced some abilities are just bugged.

People freeze exp and do weird stuff with quest rewards getting scaled up from old content, old enchants etc.

All bugged and things become problematic.

They need to fix it. There is no reason for it to be intended. If they’re worried about level 60s having 389 gear (which they already do btw) and going into battlegrounds, all they have to do is put a level restriction on the cobalt rings and rep gear.

exit surveys said it’s a reason for cancelling subs? I’m sure there’s statistical analysis done on why people stop paying them money.

If you love twinking and playing level locked, go to WotLK Classic.

ALL PvP brackets are alive and well there, as it was and should be.

THIS IS THE WAY.

I wanted to disable XP on my alts so I could farm the Dragon Racing world quests on them for a specific drakewatcher manuscript I want.

Ah well, guess I can’t do that now.

I dont “twink” but I do stop xp gains when speed gear is a thing. Which my 61 druid has 272% base speed right now. I have no idea what it will go to at 62 and im 78% into 61. I for one am sick of this with blizzard. Been playing since 2008 and I play different ways over the years. I used to multibox to farm mounts. NERF. I used to mine and herb for gold. NERF. I used to turn xp off to move faster through old content. NERF. Everything is being made to fit 1 play style and Im sick of it. Seriously thinking of unistalling.

I would speculate that it’s probably something like this. I know I felt almost insanely powerful at 60-61 with good carryover gear from SL, but as i leveled that feeling seemed to decrease.

The scaling at 60-61 would make questing much easier if you could stay there, especially if you could add in the higher level crafted gear.

I used to love playing my twinks, And, though I pretty well gave up playing them in 7.3.5, it does make me quite sad that they’ve decided to not allow level 60+ to shut xp off.
