Can't decide what professions for rogue

I see that leatherworking and engineering are both extremely valuable, from engineering bombs and cc to leatherworking only BIS armor, and I’m at a crossroads due to it. I always take a crafter profession with a gather profession so I can make money or at least not have to spend it by using my own mats. So, if I were to take leatherworking I’d go skinning and engineering would be with mining. The problem is, both professions are very good, and as someone who wants to do well in PvP and PvE, I can’t decide what combo to take for professions. So, with my infinite wisdom, I’ve decided to consult the forums in hopes I can find a response. What are your thoughts?

Just spec into being a shaman at this point, there’s no reason to bring a rogue anyways

Don’t say that, I already got my rogue to 25! Are they really that bad?

If you can keep up with the bombs, go for engineering! I went engineering instead of LW this go around, but swapped in P3 because the items were too good.

Also it got annoying to farm all the mithril/iron needed in P2 and I just didn’t bother enough to really make it useful.

Also the epics in LW are FAAAR better than the engineering ones.

Naw, they do good damage. They just don’t bring utility like Shamans do while doing similar-ish dps.

But if you enjoy Rogue, I say stick with it. You may or may not have difficulty getting into groups, but that’s what guilds are for.

We’re not bad persay, we’re doing pretty good right now since its the start of the phase, but we bring no utility and will fall off pretty quickly. But to answer your question LW/Eng is absolutely the strongest profs right now with the crafted shoulders and the bracers that give you a second Will of the Forsaken, if you have alts, give them a gathering profession if you don’t wanna spend an arm and a leg on materials.

I was looking into rogue tank too since I usually tank in WoW, how is that doing? Also, probably will just take the hit and only do one crafting profession. I’m too lazy to do alts, smh…

If you’re going rogue tank, I’d almost say Alchemy.

My rogue tank had to make so many MR potions etc. just to not get insta-gibbed by mechanics. The potions you’d make would net you good cash and also stop you from spending oodles of money on the AH.

I should have gone alchemy and played the AH all the early phases, and the shka shka of skinning is soothing only the first 2,000 times,

Engineering has nice bombs and stuff but it really feels like devoting time to gathering resources takes longer than everything that is expedited in the game if you think about it.

Tank rogues are in a similar spot. They work, just no real reason to take one over other tanks.

They do more or less fine, they just don’t have reliable cleave that isn’t on a 2 min CD so they fall behind on raid trash or dungeons. Definitely a single target or very low target number tank as things stand currently.

I’d still recommend going LW on a rogue. I went Herb/Alch on my rogue and every phase I regret it when Blizzard keeps giving Alchemy scraps and nothing insane like epic gear. I wore a helm from BFD for the entirety of P2 because there’s no leather helm alternative in Gnomeregan… Blizzard seems to make loot tables on assumptions that you will take some sort of armor crafting profession.

Honestly rogue tanking still feels pretty bad, all we can really do well is single target tank (shuriken tickle and unfair tickle both hit for <60 damage), and we take big damage spikes since all we have is a lot of avoidance which makes us harder to heal, if you’re the offtank you also spend half the fight sitting on your hands trying not to overthreat other tanks since we can’t turn off our threat modifier or use feint. I tanked one of the dragon fights the other day too and the only thing that was good was being able to shadowstep out of the green goop, since our HP takes awhile to ramp up and we have exactly 0 mitigation against nature damage I ended up taking more damage than all the other tanks.

Gonna be honest, all this is incredibly demoralizing. I usually play prot warrior but decided to swap it up entirely, going horde (which i never play) and rogue which i’ve never played…Then to see rogues just are bad?

My entire plan was to be tank rogue for raids then dual spec to dps for pvp

eh they’re still good. Right now they SEEM to be higher than in the past as far as DPS goes.

The spikiness with the tanking is a bit much, but honestly EVERYONE still wants a tank.
