Can't decide on monitor

I have recently built a custom pc that has high-end specs like i9-10900K and RTX 3090. It will arrive in about a month. And just before you rant; I will be also using it for professional film editing, so not for only playing WoW or some other games. Now, it is necessary to get a relevant monitor but I just can’t seem to decide.

I want my monitor to be 4K (27’’), have max. 4 ms response, be around 144Hz, preferably g-sync that won’t have background bleeding or a minimal degree bleeding if it would. And what I definitely don’t want is a noisy monitor. Here the problem starts… Apparently all the monitors that are both 4k and high frequency have this fan noise issue due to having an integrated fan to prevent heating since they almost function like a computer which is so disappointing to me. I can’t stand background noise. I hear all sorts of pitch and even incredibly low volume of sound easily. Also, I don’t use headphones other than for sound editing or when I’m on discord etc ‘cause I get pretty bad side-effects from it.

I’m stuck with a very few options as for what specs I want with a monitor. All the corresponding brands/models – as far as I’ve seen from all kinds of reviews on Amazon etc – (like Asus rog, Acer nitro or predator) make pretty noticeable and disturbing sound and/or have ridiculous amount of background bleeding. But my main concern is that I will be exposed to that sound right in front of my face if I were to choose one of them. I’d appreciate any comment from people that has/had any experience/knowledge on this subject.

Can’t help you with the fan regarding 4k and high refresh rate. Have you consider just regular earbuds or do those cause problems too?

Backlight bleeding is really up to the manufacturer and your luck of draw. So far LG has been the best in terms of QA for backlight bleeding from my experience. Had several Asus and Acer and it took 4 tries before I finally got one with acceptable backlight bleeding. Meanawhile my LG monitors were flawless.

Just a suggestion, but have you looked into ultrawides or having 2 monitors? One for work related and one for gaming that is lower resolution for example? 1440p 144hz and it has been quiet for me.

If you want a 4k monitor, I recommend you get one that’s larger than 27". I have a 27" 1440p monitor and everything is so tiny. It’ll be even worse for you if you go 4k. You can get around it with scaling settings and stuff, but not completely. Try a 32" 4k monitor.

I’d recommend an LG 27GN950 if you’re wanting 4k. Seems to be one of the better 4k monitors out there with high response times and 144hz refresh rate.

I have the 1440p version of this monitor the LG 27GL850 and it’s been a great monitor for the year I’ve had it so far.

I don’t think I’d be comfortable with any monitor that is bigger than 27/28" for pc gaming. In my opinion, it starts to compromise your peripheral vision as the bigger your screen gets, the less focus and control you have through one sight.

My current monitor is 4k Samsung U28E590 (got it in 2017) and I’m still so happy with it to this day. Still unsure whether it’s 27" or 28" though lol and can’t tell the accuracy with a measuring tape :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m thinking maybe LG 27GN950 would be my best bet like Superdood mentioned.

My only grip with 4K monitors is they’re all small. One year later I’m hooked on and too used to my ultra wide 1440p monitor. Super ultra wide would be interesting too. 4K needs an ultra wide monitor, haven’t seen any exist yet… my 2070 super ain’t much for 4K though.
