Hi guys,
I need some honest opinion to help me decide play a mage or warlock
Currently I level both a lock and a mage to lvl 20 and I liked them both ( warlock better because no need to sit down drink)
I’m a casual PVP player so I don’t intend on doing a lot of raiding. I will get at most T1 gear
and then jump into world/bg pvp. (dueling is not a interest to me)
I personally like lock’s style more, but I was told that lock heavily depends on gearing to be effective. plus it seems as a horde warlock it is a lot harder to get a 5 man dungeon or raiding spot to obtain the basic pvp gear
Mage feels a safer option, less gear dependant, easy to get into raid/dungeon to obtain gear, doing ok in both world and bg pvp
But I still feels warlock has a more fun playstyle than mage.
Can someone please give me some recommendation?
Thanks a lot!
Alliance? Mage
Horde? Warlock
Run both. Play them on off weeks and let the other get Rested XP Bonus.

Give them complimentary professions and they can even support each other some.

I don’t think this is a valid option… I only have like ~15 hours per week at maximum, it’s too hard to maintain 2 characters
is it really true that it’s hard to get a 5man dungeon spot or raid spot as horde warlock?
what I’m afraid is that I’m not able to obtain basic gear to pvp when I reach 60
Gear is not quite as powerful as it is in say, BfA. So ya, a geared out lock is gonna be better, but a slightly geared lock isn’t bad either.
With lock, you will have the power to dot everyone you see, fear, charm, provide health/soulstones, and be useful to a team no matter how powerful you are. A mage has its own bonuses of course.
Point is, play the class that is more fun to you. You will succeed. Both are great to have in a group!
Note: I mained a lock for the 2nd half of vanilla. Even our shadow bolt spam in raids was powerful… do not let any guides/overthinking scare you away.

First off … play what you like most.
Yes in PvE it is easier as Mage … they do a ton direct damage aoe or single target, bring a CC, provide Water for the Healer, bread for the rest … and they help to get back to City after the Dungeon!
Warlocks never run oom … but do overall less direct BAM dps compared to Mage(especially as Affliction), they have a Health Stone for everyone, can put a Soulstone on the Tank or Heal(no brez though) and come with a pocket Off-Tank.
The port Stone came with BC if i remember right.
For PvE i would choose the Mage … for PvP both are good. Warlocks can cheese allot(fear…dot…dot…fear…dot…dot…fear) but Mages can destroy too(that are glass cannons).
A Mage can cheese Hunters Death Zone … can pretty much train Warriors and Rogues hard.
Up to you … but … no one says you can’t play both to 60 …

No. You will find Dungeon and Raid spots as Warlock on both sides. Warlock doesn’t have less value then a Mage. Warlocks are pretty tough … Mages are not as tough … but have a ton tricks(Iceblock, Frost Shield, Frost Nova … Blink out of stuns and more).
Thanks for the advice! I think I will just stick to my warlock then
(their playstyle is indeed more attractive to me than mage)
You’ll also be able to drop infernals on top of erotic roleplaying.

The rank 10 pvp gear is incredibly good for warlocks. The bloodvine garb from ZG rep also very good. You can accomplish both those on your schedule. If you are Horde do warlock.
Alliance has the advantage for raiding as a warlock due to paladins Blessing of salvation which reduces threat by 30%, which warlocks spells generating too much threat is one of its biggest weaknesses. I assume your referring mostly to pvp, due to undeads racial, which really isnt that bad to fight against as alliance, just gotta cast fear again 5 seconds after they pop it.
thanks for explaining, but my friends are all playing horde, so alliance is not an option for me…
Glsd you chose Warlock. I started with a Mage and got to 22 before i realized how much I didn’t enjoy it. Switched back to the master class and even at level 15 I’m having waaaay more fun than I did on that lame thirsty thirsty Mage

Hey you! Them’s fightin’ words…
Im playing horde too, just wanted to add the info to the person I was replying to
Salvation is huge for Warlocks. Especially in AoE dungeon grinding with Hellfire
