Cant Connect via hotel wifi

So Im out of town and I cant connect to wow…goes from logging into game server to you have been disconnected. Used my cellphone hotspot and it works fine. Did the whole ipconfig/release/renew/dns thing and still nothing work…turned off firewall and still doesnt work. Any ideas?

Stop trying to use hotel wifi when their internal firewall universally prevents gaming-related network traffic from passing? (Or, if not that malicious, is probably still traffic-shaping in ways that interfere with WoW.)

There’s nothing Blizzard can do to make the hotel give you more bandwidth or unblock necessary ports. Maybe if they allow a VPN that might let you get past their restrictions.

They probably use a firewall that blocks all ports except the necessary ones for web browsing and email. No real getting around it unless you talk to them about it. I strongly doubt they will turn on UPNP for the occassional gamer.

Stayed at alot of hotels…just never ran into this issue…Oh well

Yea hotels rarely block stuff like this but they can. Same for colleges and similar. I think a VPN would get you around it but it might be just as easy to tether to your phone for a night.

Having this issue for the first time in 6 or 7 years at an IHG hotel right now. Will just never stay here again, but totally annoying for sure.

I am currently in an IGH hotel and am having this issue. However, I was def in one a few months ago in a different state and the game ran fine. I dunno wtf.

Each hotel usually sets up their own wifi system for guests. Some chains might have set standards for their guests usage, but you would need to ask the desk manager about such things.

You can get through it with a VPN if you have one. I was stuck for 2 weeks so i paid 12 bucks for a vpn and it instantly fixed the issue.

Same here --IGH hotel as well… never had the problem before…won’t stay at one again now… sadly only 1 bar of cell on phone too so while tether works my MS is crap :frowning:

your router at home probly has a vpn option built in (most do) and would be free. Set it up and vpn to your home. Much safer on public networks than some cheapo vpn hoovering your habits and monetizing (selling) it.
