Cannot swap output sound sources while in game, for example going from headset to desktop speakers while in game. It requires a game restart to take effect.

Same issue. I learned to live with game not recognizing when you change sound output in windows but at least it didn’t require game restart before. Hope they can fix it soon.

This has been a thing for quite some time, the only fix is to just change sound outputs without the game open or restart the game.
It wasn’t a thing in retail. Worked fine on Monday. Are you talking dragonflight beta/ptr?
No, actually it has been a thing for me in retail for quite some time. Across 3 totally different PCs as well. If I am in game and I try to change from my speakers to my headset I lose audio and I have to restart the game. It has been that way for as long as I can remember now.
You use to be able to fix it by switching the audio source in-game, applying, then switching back to the correct one and applying again. That has worked since either Legion or WoD. It was still buggy (sometimes switching audio sources to something that isn’t your system default would just output on the system default anyway), but at least you could avoid fully restarting the game.
Yo. So I have Sound Blaster Command and usually am swapping between headset and speakers throughout the day. It was really bugging me that the old macro to fix this stopped working. I started digging in the old xml/lua files and found this.
GIVE THIS A TRY DUDES
/run Sound_GameSystem_RestartSoundSystem()
So if the audio stops working, and I run this command, it will fix without having to restart WoW.

I change my sound outputs every week right before raid live in game and then back again. This issue has only shown up since Tuesday for me.

Yeah I have to restart the game if I want to change sound output from speakers to headset and back again. Pretty frustrating
