Can't change name of Rare Tame?

Hello,

As the title says, I just tamed Bjarn (rare bear) in dun morogh. But I can’t rename him. There’s no option on pet ai to do it.

Is it bugged or blizz changed it for rares??

Right click on the pet portrait when they are summoned to rename. Chances are since it has a name already instead of just the creature type, you’ll need a certificate to rename it. Inscription makes them.

What Sadyr said.

Rare beasts which you tame do retain their original names even after being tamed.

And now, this falls under the same rule as if you want to rename a pet you’ve already given a name in the past. In short, you need a Certificate of Ownership, crafted by Scribes/Inscription.

Well I am glad to know there’s an option to rename the rares. I thought it was a permanent thing.

I was about to start the same thread… I can’t rename Guarm.

Certificate works…

Well, if unless I’m the only schmuck unable to use the Certificate of Ownership, this does NOT work at all. I’ve tried to rename my rare pet with it and it keeps giving me “invalid characters” for everything I try.

Sometimes when you copy and paste a name from the internet, it adds a space. Not sure why.

What are you trying to name your pet? Some names like Jade and Shadowmoon are “reserved” for some dumb reason.

Unfortunately, no.

Rares (by the looks of things) cannot have their name changed.

I was looking for this, I used a certificate of ownership just to name my wolf Remus and it said invalid characters. I thought maybe because I already had a pet called Remus. So I abandoned Remus and tried to name again.

I was then left without an option to rename my pet, so not only can I not change the name, I lost the means to rename my pet and lost gold.

I have no idea why Blizz made this a thing, when it wasn’t before. Once again, Blizz limiting the options for players rather than expanding.

The fact that you could use the certificate on that pet, and then got the option to type in a name, means that it does indeed work.

Having said that, their naming polices are a bit odd sometimes, I see no issue with the name Remus, but might be some conflict with a rule they’ve implemented on the back-end. It also shouldn’t be about you having multiple pets with the same name. I myself have a few where that is the case, a case where I’ve given them their names manually.

Not sure if here, you mean that you abandoned the idea of that name, or, that you exited the edit box used to rename your pet, which, if you did, would explain why you then lost the option to rename him.

You mean with any rare/special pets retaining their original names even after having been tamed? And with that, how you need a Certificate to change names such as those. I would assume its the idea of a safeguard, as some players very much like to keep said special names, for various reasons. It’s there to prevent players from accidentally changing the name, before realising that once they’ve done so, they cannot get that original name back.

Anyway, the certificate does indeed work, just that for some reason, you couldn’t choose ‘Remus’ as your desired name for that pet.

Sometimes putting the pet in the stable and taking them back out helps with the renaming.

Worth noting that some tames natively cannot be renamed without a certificate.
Mainly Reban.
I guess it’s because Reban technically was already named, therefore needs a certificate.

Shout-out to the scribe I’ve made rich with my 3 hunters all taming Reban.

It really was dumb idea from Blizzard as it has only increased the price for an item that was rarely used in the past. There should always be an option to give the pet you tamed a name you like as it gives it individuality. Now if you tame a rare and want it to stand out from just another Loque’nahak you have to pay a huge fine.

Yep, that’s what I said.

I tried today with the Certificate of ownership. I cannot rename Steeltusk. If there is a new fix as of Dragonisles, please let me know. Thanks!
