Cannot Unlearn Leatherworking (WOTLK)

On my character, I am unable to unlearn leatherworking. I want to unlearn Leatherworking to learn Engineering.

I am able to unlearn enchanting on that same character and am able to unlearn many other professions on my other characters, but not leatherworking. I have another leatherworker and am unable to unlearn it on that character either while being able to unlearn its other profession. I tried all this with all addons disabled.

I open my character screen, go to the skills tab, select Leatherworking, and there is no :no_entry_sign: symbol on the right where it should be to let me unlearn it. I have unlearned many professions in the past and I know what it looks like and where it should be - the functionality is just simply missing.

Here is a side by side comparison of Enchanting that I can unlearn vs Leatherworking that I (for some reason) cannot unlearn.

Is there any other way that I can unlearn this profession other than that one button that is missing?

With Ulduar coming out tomorrow, I would very much like to be able to learn engineering as it is very useful in raiding and I have already gathered all the mats for it. Very disappointing.

Do you have a leatherworking specialization? Might need to open your, for example, Dragonscale Leatherworking and unlearn it from there?

Might not be useful but I hope that helps ya out man, rough situation you’re in for sure.

Edit: Just wanted to note there’s alot of little profession bugs with the Ulduar patch, if you never tried to unlearn it until today, you might be stuck with it until some fixes roll out. Perhaps make a post on the bug report forums, devs are more likely to see it there.

Thanks for pointing that out. I thought I was posting in the bug reports, but I must have made a new post in the wrong tab -_-

I think it probably is a bug stemming from the new Ulduar patch, but who knows really

Also, I don’t have any specializations on that character & the only way that I know of, and that I could find while looking for possible solutions, to unlearn a profession is from the skills tab of the character info.

I am having the exact same issue. Would like to take on Eng but can’t drop LW. It will allow me to drop my JC profession which I find strange.

I had reposted this in the bug repots section and someone has posted a working solution there.

Be warned though - MAKE SURE TO READ THEIR ENTIRE COMMENT FIRST - the command to remove the profession is risky and gives no confirmation dialogue and you might inadvertently unlearn your other profession if the command is not entered correctly.

Make sure to take the headers into account when making the count (Class Skills, Professions) as they count as a number for the /command. I highly recommend trying it on a bank alt or another char with expendable professions first before committing to it on your intended character.

If you are unsure about it, might be best to wait for Blizzard’s fix
