Let me preface this by saying that I enjoyed the addon, it adds an AI voice to quest text in a similar-to-the-NPC voice and it gives a different depth to the game that has been sorely missing for the past 20 years.
It has its minor issues, like the voices are clearly AI created. There are some very good AI voice generators out there, but the one used for this addon doesn’t quuuite get it right. Also, it only works for DF and TWW and even then not all of the content (nothing for Siren Isles), but those aren’t the issues I had with it.
The one glaring issue that makes me not recommend it is it absolutely DESTROYS my FPS. I didn’t realize just how much better my FPS was until I uninstalled it.
I had just (finally) upgraded my GPU to an RTX 4070 and my rig is a decent 12th gen i7 with 32GB of RAM and everything running on Samsung m.2 SSD’s.
I could go out into the world with everything cranked to max settings and see 100+ FPS, but it would constantly drop frames by like double digits and in cities it was lucky to see over 30 FPS, even in Stormwind. I could turn down the view distance and environment detail, which did help a lot, but in the cities it was still tanking hard.
After I uninstalled the addon, I was seeing FPS numbers I hadn’t before in areas where I had previously visited. The only caveat to this is Dornagol, right in the center where everyone is standing, that always causes my frames to drop, but that’s understandable.
What I noticed is when the frame drops happened with the addon installed, there was not only a noticeable frame drop, but like it was as if the game was stuttering. 30 FPS with the addon uninstalled was noticeably smoother than with the addon installed (and yes, I get that 30 FPS isn’t “smooth”, but you get what I mean).
I went to the Dragon Isles, 60-100 FPS all day long, even in the city, Stormwind was smooth as glass, raids and dungeons looked awesome. Overall, the game just seems more responsive, like I don’t know if it was really input lag, but spells and reactions to my inputs just seem… better.
So, yeah, I don’t recommend using this app. My rig isn’t exactly state of the art and not overclocked, but I can’t see any reason for my frame rate to tank that hard for just general gameplay.
