Cannot Interact With NPCs

Im in Vol’dun and I can’t interact with any npcs. I will force close the game because sometimes it wont even let me log out. And when i return in game it will let me interact with them. But after i do a quest or try to interact with another npc, it goes back to not letting me interact with them. I dont have any addons…i dont think anyway. So im not sure what is happening. It was acting fine yesterday but today the game just keeps doing that. I dont want to have to keep exiting the game just to interact with an NPC.

Hey there Galethvia,

That sounds rather odd that NPCs won’t let you interact with them and you also can’t quit the game. The symptom sounds like a connection related one where the server isn’t seeing the NPC interaction or attempts to quit through the menu, which does sent a command to the server when the button is clicked on. It may be due to a program, typically something relating to Quality of Service (QoS), add-ons, or a connection issue.

To start, if you have any sort of QoS software running like, for example HP Omen or ASUS ROG Gamefirst, try turning off the network monitoring. You can also just uninstall it so it’s not a factor.

If it persists or if you have no such software, I’d like to do is get a Winmtr test ran that captures when this happens for further clues.

Just run the test for 3-15 minutes, restarting the test if nothing occurs in that time frame. When a problem happens, let the test run an extra minute and then end it. Save the results, then open the text file and paste them here between two ~~~ like so:

MTR Here

If you have issues pasting here, use Pastebin and post the end of the link. (ie. 123456 for pastebin.com/123456)

How do i turn off the network monitoring? i do have an HP Omen Monitor.

Hey there,

HP Omen Command Center would be the software required for it to impact networking on the PC. Check for it in the programs list on the computer. If it’s there, uninstalling it would be the best thing to do. Once that’s done the computer should be restarted before continuing in-game.

Hope this helps. Cheers!

looking it up on my pc, i dont see it. so i guess that isnt the problem.

Hey there Galethvia,

I looked into more specific steps to address HP Omen Command Center just in case that is a factor. There are 2 ways to disable it:

1) Open up the Omen Command Center
2) Select your PC on the left side if it's not already selected
3) Go to the Network Booster Tab
4) Change the Mode to "Off"

The other way is within Task Manager.

1) Open up Task Manager. You can access this with Ctrl + Shift + Esc
2) Go to the Services Tab
- If you don't see any tabs, click More details at the bottom
3) Sort by name and look for HP Omen Cap
4) Select it and right-click it
5) Select Stop

Of course uninstalling the HP Omen Command Center followed by a system restart can also work for this.

If you’re still having a problem though, we’d want to check what clues a Winmtr test shows as I mentioned above. The results can help show if it’s an ISP or network issue, or possibly if nothing shows, can help suggest it’s a program affecting things since typically those types of disconnections won’t show on a test.

If you’re having a problem with anything here or would rather us take a more detailed look, a ticket would be appropriate. That way we can check the system information files for potential causes like HP Omen. Here’s a link if you go that route.
