Cannot install WoW - stuck initializing

On a new computer I went to install WoW. Completely fresh windows install, 100% blank slate. Constantly stuck at

Initializing…/Initializing 2151424/2151424

and the cycle repeats for maybe 10 or so times before changing to ‘paused’ and I Just have to close and re-open battle.net app.

I’ve followed the troubleshooting steps of rebooting, restarting the app, deleting the battle.net folder in programdata. Not sure what else to do or where to go from here. Just cannot get it to start downloading at all.

Same issue. Tried all the recommended troubleshooting steps for previous issues and nothing works. Glad I decided to buy the expansion before I installed on a fresh computer to get back into it after a long hiatus.

I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled battlenet
deleted cache
Installed .NET update
tried beta battlenet app
disabled vpn, antivirus, windows defender, etc.
Ran agent and battlnet as admin
rebooted numerous times

Did you ever get it working?

I downloaded wow on another computer and transferred it over via external hard drive. Never got battle.net to work.

Yeah that seemed to work for me. I was able to download it on a Win 10 PC and transfer it. Neither of my Win 11 devices seem to be able to get battle.net working.

Thanks!

When it’s stuck on initializing, it’s often scanning to see what files it needs to queue from the server. It takes longer if you have a unique install with lots of mini-patches that is really out-of-date ( sometimes even 5-10 minutes to queue, other times this is a server-side issue that you can do nothing about. )

NOTE: The Battle.Net client doesn’t seem to work with a VPN that has Jumbo Frames / Jumbo Packet enabled for the physical network adapter, so it has to be left at the default setting, with an MTU of 1500, when using protocols / network services like WireGuard. It’s not the same for all other types of software. You could also check your firewall rules, file permissions, or even whether or not Windows Defender Antivirus is blocking or slowing down the updater.

NOTE: I have version 10.0.22621.1265 installed, and I had zero issues running the updater ( latest version of Windows 11. )
