was able to utilize the skip option for the intro to professions
but I cannot hand in dragon shards to khadin - despite btWquests sees the required quests as completed after I did the skip

If you go to Timberstep Outpost, you should see Thomas Bright. Talk to him and you will get the quest, Master of Their Craft" to speak to Master Khadin. That’s what worked for me, at least. You may also be able to encounter Thomas at the mid-level crafting tier - near the alchemy trainer.
