Why does this happen every patch? I have a lot of characters, so story quest skips are extremely important to me and my time in this game. It is disrespectful to the player to penalize them for not skipping certain things before a patch releases.
I have done the forbidden reach 1/7 step on 3 characters now, but every alt I log onto MUST complete the story quests starting at “The Best We Have”. I skipped these quests on my rogue, and when I logged on her today she immediately received the quest for Zaralek. However, every other character I have logged on that had not already completed 1/7 for the Embers of Neltharion MUST do these quests again. They only take about 10 minutes to complete, but across 7 characters, this is over an hour of doing quests that I have already done. I do not see the “skip” prompt on any of my characters like I did on my rogue. How was my rogue able to skip the first story step but none of my others can? I completed the story step on one character to unlock the skip, but cannot skip on anyone.
Also, I HAD TO FIGURE THIS OUT FOR MYSELF. There is NO indicator in the ui that you MUST go to the Forbidden Reach and do the first few quests there. It is not immediately obvious what you are supposed to do when you are expecting to log in, be given the new patch quest, and are not given it. Every resource online says “log in after 10.1 maintenance and you will receive the quest”, so when I log in and don’t it’s immediately confusing as a player. I understand why this would be missed if you are an employee working on the game and understand how things chain together naturally, but I can’t keep up with that across 8 characters all the time.
Please just make this easier for everyone. When a new major patch drops, just put a skip option in the major city so we can instantly start working on the new content. If the player hasn’t done ANY of the story ahead of it, give them a MASSIVE INDICATION that they need to go do that. There are so many times in this game where I have to go search the WoWHead comments or read reddit posts just to find what should be obvious information. This can all be distributed in a diegetic way as to not break immersion. It would take one single brain at Blizzard to think of this potential confusion and fix it.
Rant over. I know I’m not the only one that was thrown off by this since I’ve already seen some reddit posts.
**Edit: as an example of this happening before, there was a point in Shadowlands where you had to finish 2 story steps in Korthia just to unlock Zerith Mortis. This was not explained AT ALL in the game, and as a returning player during that patch, it took me hours of digging for information to figure out that fact.

Glad I found your post! Have been scanning posts all over trying to find why I am not getting the quest. Disabling addons, talking to NPC’S from old quests in my log book, nothing! Went to try and put in a a ticket and guess what…it is not working either. Was getting ready to simply log off and walk away from it and found your post. Can’t say with certainty that this is my problem but I am betting it is, Thank you!

I’ve done it on 4 characters now. As soon as I finish the 1/7 story step, it tells me to go back to Valdraken and pick up the Zaralek starting quest!
So frustrating that this isn’t abundantly clear on patch day. Hopefully a blue will look at this post.

Sigh thanks for the heads up. come on blizz this is basic stuff at this point. how do you do so well in some spots but fall apart on other basic stuff

Just to show visually what happens AFTER you complete 1/7 steps. This should be obvious when you are at 0/7 so you know to go to the Forbidden Reach.

As of right now, I have had to do it on 5 characters. These are all characters that had access to the Zskera Vaults and had done both skips on the Forbidden Reach.

Just FYI if you haven’t started The Best We Have quest just abandon the quest and go back to quest giver and you can skip this quest. This will port you back to seat of the aspects allowing you to start the Zaralek cavern quest.

I mean, I’m not surprised. The Trading Post still won’t let me unfreeze the Voidspire staff. It was the first thing I ever froze and I haven’t been able to freeze anything since. I own the staff and now I hate it so much, I’d never mog it. I’m tired of seeing it.
Weird, I had the same issue, then randomly one day it just let me drag it out of the slot
My friend has this exact issue and after logging on and off with multiple characters flying around to where quests should be and into the cave… nothing. Thankfully i found your post after 30-45 mins of wasted time. thank you for posting!
This is why honestly, Blizzard still sucks. They want to force players to take as much extra wasted time as possible, anything that makes us have to use more of our game time, they’ll do. They want us playing the game as long as possible before we get bored and stop subscribing. It’s just a fact that WoW players have to accept! Begging and pleading with them has never and will never work.

I think this is already fixed? I have a fresh 70 that was able to skip FR entirely by hitting skip options and go straight to new zone
definitely not fixed, 1 of my alts was able to, the other two i’ve been forced to go to forbidden reach. I feel like if you have Forbidden reach story quests on your character it simply wont let you skip.

Well there must be some exception because I just logged on my Dh who is 0/7 at forbidden reach and I immediately got the caverns quest but some of my other toons who had done the opening quest at the reach didn’t get it.
This is to prevent cheaters like yourself skipping past valid content.
do not for get you can not do weekly for gear ether . did 5 heroics last night to find that out . bye bye
