Confirmed as well, I can now click the table to choose a Covenant!

just checked and i can select from the table as well. at first i could not abandon it and was thinking here we go again, but i clicked on the table and was able to select this time. had me worried for a few moments.
but also make sure to go talk to the leader of the covenant in the same building area before heading out. as that is the start of the new quests.
also at the flight path leading down you can get 2 items for 500 gold. that is level 60 off the bat with your covenant, and then all 200 of the stones for picking the pathways for your champions. good luck and keep WOW great out there.
