Can you tame Zhao-Ren?

Hello, I’ve been reading on wowhead that Zhao-Ren can be tamed on pandaren hunters because apparently pandarens don’t need to learn the tome to tame cloud serpents, but on reddit and other forums I read that this isn’t true.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to tame Zhao-Ren as a pandaren hunter with no other accounts having unlocked the cloud serpent tome?

Pandaren Hunters can indeed tame Cloud serpents having used the book.
The other races that get free tame skills are
Forsaken can tame Undead pets
Mecha-Gnomes can tame Mechanical pets
Zandalari can tame Direhorns

Both Feathermane and Blood Beast need to be learned from there perspective tomes regardless of race.

Yep!

In fact, a couple weeks ago I rolled a Pandaren Hunter solely to tame that Cloud Serpent. I’ve since put her on the shelf… I figured it’d be nice to have a lowbie Hunter down the road for if I get the itch to level another baby Hunter.

EDIT: I did this before getting the tome on Watermist.

Oh nice! I was hesitant to roll a pandaren hunter just incase I wasted all that time and wouldn’t be able to tame him. I’m sort of trying to dip my toes into RP, and wanted my pandaren to be on the “hunt” for a perfect beast to tame, eventually leading him to Zhao Ren.

I’ll definitely give this a shot and will post back here with results!

Is this working correctly now for new Pandaren hunters without the book?

That’s not a unique look. You can pick it up other places, notably minions summoned by Gu in Shado-Pan Monastery.

Sorry, a bit of thread necromancy here but I tried to tame zhao-ren moments ago in the pandaren starting isle and got the error message “You do not know how to tame cloud serpents.” Is this a temporary “fix” to prevent new players from obtaining zhao-ren specifically, or do we now need this afore-mentioned book?

As far as I can tell from comments on other forums and replies from GMs etc, even as a Pandaren, you need one character on your account to have bought and learned/used the tome required for taming Cloud-Serpents - How to School Your Serpent

Note that others have reported this to be very buggy. Some have bought several tomes and used them and they still cannot tame Cloud-Serpents. For some, they use the tome and it’s not consumed in the process, taking them multiple attempts before it’s properly learned.

  • I read How to School Your Serpent and the serpents say they’re tameable but I still can’t tame them

We are aware of an issue where the Tome How to School Your Serpent does not appear to allow the taming of cloud serpents and the issue is under investigation. There is no known workaround at this time. We do not recommend purchasing additional tomes in attempt to resolve this issue.

I haven’t found any additional announcements/posts on the matter since so I can only assume that they haven’t worked it out yet? (Feel free anyone to post a link where they say they’ve fixed it)
