Is there something I’m missing in the options? Or was this just how it was. Is there an addon you can use to do this somehow?
You cannot see your target’s cast bar in classic, no. I think there might have been addons but I honestly don’t remember and I’m not sure which ones work for this version of classic.
There were addons that could show it if the player was in range for the combat log to pick it up. The addons read the combat log and created the castbar from that.

Well, you could use a hearthstone and hope someone wastes an interupt on that lol

I remember always being able to see what my target was casting. Was key for interrupts in both pve and pvp.
The option to display enemy cast bar was added in patch 2.0.1, until then people used addons.
There were already working addons to show enemy cast bars in beta, but they don’t seem as accurate as when it became a baseline feature. IE: the enemy stops casting but you may still see the bar for a short time.
Then I do hope addons will have that functionality in Classic.
There were no enemy cast bars in the Vanilla UI, but there was an addon for it, although the cast times shown were not always accurate.
This worked in beta. Apparently you can’t distinguish between spell ranks in the combat log so it always assumes the cast was max rank, which would make the actual timing of the cast a guess.
If it works off the combat log I’d guess that also means it won’t know if you cancel a cast to immediately remove the bar since there’s no combat log event for that?
