Can you learn cosmetics not of your armor type?

Like, as a leather class can I buy a mail cosmetic item off the cov vendor and learn it so my mail alts can use it for mogging? I think you can due to recent changes to cosmetic items but I’m not totally sure and I don’t want to waste anima and grateful offerings.

No you can’t.
If it’s a cosmetic that does not specify an armor type then yes, but if it says leather then you need to equip it on a leather wearing class.

But cosmetic items aren’t equipped anymore, they’re just learned.

Right, if it’s a cosmetic that does not have an armor type then it is transmoggable by every armor type, so any character could consume that cosmetic. Does that make sense?

I have not tried it with purchased ones, but others I have found required the proper armor/weapon class to learn.

I had to send a ZM cosmetic from a treasure to a diff char and that char also had to be level 60 to learn it.

I looted a cosmetic mace on Xialla. She couldn’t learn it, but it was account bound, so I was able to send it to my Paladin and learn it on her.

I wish I knew for sure. There’s this tread that seems to say otherwise.

And this is where I first heard about it at 6:15.

Maybe he’s wrong? Maybe plate characters can learn the lower armor type cosmetics but it doesn’t work the other way around?

I guess I could just waste some anima and find out.

You can’t
If you try to buy the leather grateful offerings set from the kyrian vendor on a paladin it will not let you learn it

If they made it sendable BoA that i don’t know, but on the toon itself it won’t work

Guess its back to grinding grateful offerings on 16 characters.

And Blizz called this expansion alt friendly. SMH

No one told you to have 16 toons.

You’re complaining about a problem you created.

Exactly. My Horde rogue sent a 2 hand sword to my Alliance DK. I still have to get a few more levels on her, but at least I can use the token.

It’d be cool if they just made ALL mogs ‘cosmetic’ and give up the ridiculous restrictions.

Note this doesn’t apply to cosmetic weapons. Cosmetic weapons, depsite being classed as cosmetic, still retain their weapon types and as such, cannot be learnt on classes that cannot wield said weapon types. E.g. the Jiro hammer from the Olea cache in ZM etc. Thankfully most cosmetic weapons pieces are BoE and so can be mailed to an appropriate class to learn.

You only have to do 4 characters now since you can switch Covenants. You only need one for each armor type. They can join each Covenant and get all the transmogs.

Unfortunately this is not correct. If you equip a cloth piece on a plate wearer it will not unlock the transmog for that item.

The vendor will let you buy the item but you will be unable to consume the cosmetic. I just tried it bc that would have been amazing lol. So if you want all the embercourt sets you will have to do it on 4 chars, 1 of each armor class.
There are some cosmetic sets that you can buy that are not armor type specific, those are meant to be usable by everyone so any char can unlock those.

What’s the difference? It’s still grinding it out 16 times no mater if you do it on four or 16.

No longer need to equip cosmetic times. You just click on them to learn them.

The difference is also leveling each of them to 60.

You only have to do that 4 times, then run them each through each Covenant.

I could see that. But being one of those dumb-dumbs that likes to level, having 16 60s isn’t a problem. I just briefly got excited that maybe life got easier with the cosmetics change but of course it didn’t.

I had originally planned to do 16 60s as well, until they made it easier to switch your Covenant.

Now I only have 10 60s and the others have been sidelined.
