I’m throwing money at a gpu, hoping to get me over that hump.
For WoW after a certain point, GPUs don’t provide more FPS just more eye candy awhile sustaining said FPS.
Within the cities you’ll hit CPU limitations depending on how many people are around and if you have addons such as Weakauras which can get pretty demanding if you have a lot of things going on.
Even with the best on the market, you’ll still dip below 60s at times.
Throw it at a CPU instead. Cities aren’t a rendering issue - they’re a processing one. X3D chips in particular will afford a fantastic uplift in cities, with my change-over from a 3900X to a 5800X3D yielding roughly an 80% boost in Valdrakken (yes that’s also an architecture change, but no generation has been that much faster since the early '00s). A properly configured 7950X3D should offer the best performance at present, but a 7800X3D is going to be easier to set up, more consistent, and roughly the same speed anyway.
Each extra player in an area means more data that needs to be processed before anything can be displayed, and major cities tend to have a lot of extra players nearby. Their locations, their current state, their log entries - all of it comes first.
Can confirm. I run steadily above 60fps in cities at 4k ultra settings on a 7950x3d and rtx3080 12gb. In content outside cities I maintain 120fps+
It’s over. Very happy with my choice.
