Can we try an "old school rules" server

plz refer to the pristine server post and if you have the power to remove this thread to lessen the spam on the forums feel free to do so, this one was simply nercod and no longer serves a purpose

With the amount of people that want things to just go back to how they were, I really don’t understand why Blizzard insists on pushing their ideas out.

Did you mean: WoW Classic?

Id like to try bfa because over all I think it’s got some pretty cool stuff and I like a lot of the classes and class design but a lot of people seem to prefer older systems, so I’d be interested to see how it would play out.

It would bring back a few jaded players I imagine

Classic is coming for you summer 2019. Otherwise your out of luck.

For future posters can we please reframe from saying this

I’m talking about the current game and not classic and I see no harm in throwing out ideas

Some time back Blizzard was tossing around the idea of ā€œpristine serversā€. The idea was like the live version of the game but with none of the QoL improvements that have been added to the game over the years.

I think the OP was shooting more towards that idea rather than WoW Classic.

Seems like a pretty good middle ground to keep both parties of how people enjoy the game happy

What not allowed an opinion, etc…? I mean Classic is coming and it’s the only thing you’ll get close to what you want. Which won’t come to current wow. Especially anytime soon. Even if you do eventually get what you want it will be quite some time and won’t have for BFA nor the next 2 future expansions, etc you get what I mean. So your best bet is to look forward to Classic as that is all your getting right now. /shrugs/

What you are suggesting is not how servers …function. There isn’t a server admin that can just post arbitrary rules like Minecraft etc.

Classic is coming. The time of the great return is upon us.

That sounds very convoluted to implement for one specific server.

I thought you were unsubbing last month?

They played with this idea before, but decided it wouldn’t have much of a following.

Kept my sub running to fight the good fight, someone has to do it

I also believe they would need more than one server for this because I think a pretty large number of people would be keen to try it out

Sarcasm aside, I think there isn’t much possibility of a ā€œpristine serverā€ being added.

Here’s the reasoning:

A ā€œpristine serverā€ would have to be held aloof and maintained separately from the main WoW servers - basically it would be a separate game, much in the way the Classic will be. This means that a team would have to be devoted to the maintenance and upkeep of that server, and it is very unlikely that Blizzard is willing to devote the necessary hardware and personnel to do something like that.

Practically speaking, an aloof server (or servers) like that would require separate coding for everything. Every change made to the game would have to be coded twice - once for the main game, and once for the ā€œpristineā€ server(s). That’s twice the work, twice the QC time, etc. etc. They’re not going to do that.

Unless they made money

Imagine adding these, all the complains would vanish from forums because you could slice the players into groups of what they preferred

I don’t see why they couldn’t do it, they had pvp servers and pve servers for the longest time

Having PvP and PvE servers is different. There was already a toggle in the game that said ā€œif this is ā€˜on’ then the player is flagged for PvPā€. All they had to do to make a server a ā€œPvPā€ server is classify that toggle as always being ā€œonā€.

Rolling back global rules and mechanisms would actually require re-coding a HUGE portion of the game, and would require separate coding for every change.

The fact is, while the results we see when they make changes seem relatively inconsequential, it’s actually taken a huge number of man-hours to get the code to a point where they can implement it in the game without literally breaking the entire thing.

It’s a widely-known fact that WoW’s base code is ā€œspaghettiā€ code. A lot of things in the game are hard-coded into it at a very fundamental level, and they literally can’t change some things because it will break the game. Like 16 slot backpacks. I wish I were kidding.

I’d be happy with a CRZ/Sharding free server. Rest of it I could deal with as long as I had ā€œMYā€ server back.

but I have a 20 slot backpack!

Blizzard tossed around ideas of pristine servers and classic. They chose to develop classic servers.

Throw in no flying ever and I’d be on board.
