Can we talk about Retribution Aura please

There is no defense of this ability, it’s just not made well at all. Getting a buff from people dying is incredibly toxic and just bad gameplay. It inflates our DPS during progression and makes Ret look like its doing very well when in reality we are bottom of the middle pack. Change Retribution aura into some kind of permanent buff that only Ret can provide to everyone, this will help with our problem of not getting into groups and get rid of the toxic way this spell currently works.

Especially considering that it was a passive ability back before auras made their return.

From a totally subjective standpoint: I don’t mind Retribution Aura at all (which includes not minding if it was reworked) seeing that retribution is a mere shadow of its former self. To make ret enjoyable again we need a complete overhaul. Unluckily I have a feeling that next expac will only make things worse seeing what they did to my favourite spec since Legion.
That said: sure, rework it if it helps getting into pug’s.

If you think about it, it fits what Retribution is defined as. Retribution. Payback. But there is almost no reason to use it. LFR it has a use, but otherwise…. Defense aura unless multiple Pally’s

Agree. I like the auras but they overall useless

Defense one that 3%. Cool. 3 damage out of per 100. So I take 97damage…
One that increase mounted speed… Useless as we fly most places
Lower Interrupt and Silence by 30%. Somewhat useful but only in pvp
Ret aura that only happen is someone in party dies.
And a pvp aura…

I def wish they had more effect, maybe make them have an internal cooldown but make them much more useful, so you can’t constantly switch but they have a real use

I’m a firm believer that Ret needs a strong offensive group CD, to help it find a place in raid/m+. A reworked Ret aura would be a good candidate for that.

Ret aura is my go-to for pvp. This, combined with the Reckoning pvp talent, and you will get wings a lot.

If your teammates are dead you are in big trouble in PVP most the time lol.

This sounds good, maybe after the group suffers so much damage, Ret could pop Retribution Aura to increase all damage by 10-20% or something.

I do epic bgs and large brawls. It works great.

All our auras outside of devo/crusader aura are garbage.

You mean you don’t want an absolutely useless waste of a pathetic spell that has nothing to do with the original Retribution aura nor does it lend anything to Ret spec? It’s like they decided “Hey as a joke let’s change it to a textbook derivative of the word retribution that doesn’t have a positive function.”

Yea. I have never once used Ret aura in retail except as a joke when people start dying on bosses.

Not that OG Ret Aura’s 5 damage per tick was that great but when you have 5 paladins in your group, it could be helpful.

Another day/patch/year, another ruined Paladin ability. Before long we will be back to vanilla, swinging a hammer and running out of mana in 3 spells except now we won’t even have blessings or seals. And they’ll take away crusader strike, too.

That’d be nice. I also kind of like the idea of something like the anima power from Terragrue that reduces the resource cost of your abilities (for the whole party). They could do a lot of cool things with it given the Ret/Paladin fantasy, but I’d even settle for a lust knockoff that gives mastery. It just needs to be something that’s not shared by other Paladin specs, is beneficial enough to the party to warrant bringing a Ret, and preferably has an offensive component.

Ret aura is garbage design and shouldnt be in the game but you are wrong about ret. Ret is really strong this tier and above middle of the pack without ret aura. Also ret is really good in m plus. We are just under S tier for M plus. Some of the Top end M plus teams are even theorycrafting ways to fit ret in some comps because of how strong they are. You constantly spread misinformation about ret on here. Its good to acknowledge/discuss things like ret aura being awful. But when you follow it by spreading misinformtion about ret dps is discredits your entire discussion.

Misinformation? We are near bottom on 50% of the fights and only excel at gimmicky junk fights like Soulrender and Painsmith, 95 percentile if you wanna look yourself. As for M+, I don’t know what right below S tier adds to our resume but it must not be much cause why would you bring “right below S tier” when you can just bring S tier itself. We are the least represented dps class in the game for both M+ and raid.

I mean, hell, make it another heroism/bloodlust/angrypet/doomdrums, but please make it do something. Even maybe make it a raidwide 20s BoK style buff, 10% (heavy mathhammer needed) to all stats on all raid members, but also gives exhaustion and give us an alternative to hero for raidwide boom cooldowns.

Maybe not directly related to Retribution aura, but I’m kinda upset with how they changed “Ultimate Retribution” PvP talent :-1:

You used to get a frequent, 20-second window to brez teammates that died nearby - and it worked great in BGs. I don’t understand how this new version works, it’s convoluted and confusing… it is just way too situational.

The old version was much better/simpler imo, really came in handy for brezzing pugs in the big teamfights. It was actually useful.

With 9.1.5, can we please look at Retribution Aura and change it so its actually useful outside of someone having to die, thank you.

Keep the current retribution aura. It has served well in pvp, with the death of my teammates… I shall avenge them with 8 seconds of fun!

I don’t think Ret needs an overhaul mechanically.

Agreed on player end but apparently not on dev end.
It was the Ret spec passive in Legion and BFA and then made a Pally aura in Shadowlands.
Someone in the developers office just loves this form of gameplay option for Paladins and won’t budge.
