Can we Reshade to WoW change our graphics without being banned?
Not sure either way but if its using an *.exe to alter files i would say its NO, blizzard will never tell you what explicitly is and isn’t allowed either. all you can do is assume. I would say don’t risk it.
for those that don’t know what ReShade is. this is the intro from their webpage
“… ReShade is a generic post-processing injector for games and video software developed by crosire . Imagine your favorite game with ambient occlusion, real depth of field effects, color correction and more … ReShade exposes an automated and generic way to access both frame color and depth information (latter is automatically disabled during multiplayer to prevent exploitation) and all the tools to make it happen…”
I agree with Delgan, it’s not worth the risk.
They even say parts of it need to be disabled to prevent exploitation in multiplayer games
so yea, psure this one would get us into trouble.
Going to need an official response tho as to if this one is allowed or not before I would even install it for other games.
This is why I am asking for a clear response from Blizzard, which I know is like holding my breath
Blizzard will not give you permission or blessing to run an application that modifies the visualization processing chain or injects model changes. But if precedent matters, Blizzard has banned and suspended accounts for using other model injector applications.
This forum is supported by fellow players. Staff rarely comment on threads unless they have a direct update from developers or network engineers about a popular problem like a server going offline or several ISPs having issues in a specific region. They have never fielded questions regarding specific apps leading to bans or not because that stance could change at any time and then they’d have to hunt down every discussion on the forum. It wouldn’t make sense to create that situation for their forum mods.
The concept of Reshade isn’t much different from say changing settings in your Nvidia control panel. If that’s all it did it would be ok. But the WAY it works may pose a problem. I don’t know how it works, but if it’s injecting anything into the game code itself that’s an extreme no-no even if it’s not being used to cheat. Without more technical knowledge on exactly how it works, I would have to say “I wouldn’t risk it.”
I almost feel like I should write the company and get a snail mail answer
Thing is, as I said earlier. Blizzard will never tell you if an application is or isn’t against the rules to be used. Bad actors (criminals) would love to know what they can use to gain a back door into the game to do bad things. Not just to players but to blizzard to destroy the game. You just don’t know what these programs can do besides reshade as you say. Just because a program says it does one thing doesn’t mean it also doesn’t do something else. And if you actually wrote to them you wouldn’t get an answer apart from thanks for your letter but we can’t tell you.
They won’t respond to an inquiry like that, and they definitely will never give a solid “yes” or “no” answers. What a program is capable of later could vastly change from what it currently does.
I wouldn’t risk using Reshade on my account. But you do you.
Edit: there’s also so many variants of Reshade that there would be no way to give a broad approval or not. And with so many variants, it’s likely at least a few run foul of blizzards rules. While sure you may just like the look of other players being neon blue, having neon blue players running around in a PVP match would be an unfair advantage.
Edit 2:
Its old so please do not post there! But the below statement from a Support Forum Agent is likely the most official reply you will get.
