Can we please stop locking story content behind rep gates?

I was watching a recent Bellular video and he mentioned that the one of the quests that was supposed to explain some major story involving the world tree only had like a 12% completion rate. Why? Because it’s locked behind the rep system Dragon Flight has.

My problem? I made too many alts, so none of those alts were able to really go beyond rank 20-22. I’ve reached a point where I will likely never max these factions. I was also one of the ones who missed the entire quest line because you guys locked out behind a rep gate.

It’s fine if it’s cosmetics and whatnot. But maybe don’t lock core story content behind rep.

. . . and you were not expecting this to be the case? It has basically been S.O.P. in WoW for some time. No need to be surprised.

Agreed. :robot::-1:

I even grinded the Valdrakken reputation through the Obsidian Citadel to avoid spoilers although I wasn’t crazy to dash through the stories so I did get spoiled about Malfurion’s situation. :robot::ear:

They want you to do a bunch of stuff and reward you with story, but did so in such a way that large portions of the story can very easily be skipped and missed.

Blizzard really just needs to develop a legit MSQ story track and stick all the important story and plot threads on that. Leave the fun side stories if you want renown or rep stories, things you dont need to know to understand the main story.

It’d likely fix all their issues with pacing if they did that.

You want to do the story without doing the story?

I’m not surprised, I just don’t like it. It’s gotten to the point that in order to do something you like, you have to go through doing stuff that you hate first so that you eat up more of your time, and progress slower through content. I’m not going to play that game. It’s how they ruined BfA, and they seem incapable of seeing how off putting it is to players.

Grind for gear? Fine. It’s the only way I can get it. Jump through a bunch of hoops and grind away to get story content? No thanks. I’ll just read it later and/or RP my characters through it. Meanwhile I’ll do battlegrounds and other things I enjoy. My patience is not in limitless supply.

I just wish they spent half as much time creating interesting content as they did trying to slow us down.

those days are gone lol.

Why I like wrath more. I usually CTA BG level cap chars. at 80 I pick the stories I want to run. Tyrion does not give 2 craps about rep. I want to kill scourge, he sends me to do that.

Also didn’t help retail deprecated good reasons to actually do this.

In wrath one could if motivated spend a whole week to rep grind outland. For the shoulder enchants. Not as good as hodir but it is an option. It is still even the 2nd choice for BIS now. If hodir rep is an issue…go steamroll outland.

Retail as far back as bfa I recall had you go cool…I am exalted. What’s it get me?

Well a useless item. See rep rewards for say the drustvar faction. Ilevel of items your current gear was waaaaaay over them by the time you exalted them.

gee thanks.

They don’t have to be. I think WoW is like one of those sports teams that’s stuck with a coach who can’t get past their one trick pony way of thinking. A fresh outlook is needed.

It’s not that improvements haven’t been made, but every improvement is tarnished by old patterns repeating themselves. My guess is that new blood is bringing in new ideas, which are then watered down or hit by the old guard swinging a mediocrity hammer.

Grinding rep isn’t story. Its a time sink designed to slow down your progression. Maybe it would be different if you actually reached Rank 30 for completing the entire faction story, but that is not the case.

((See below. My bad))

What tokens are you talking about?

the story should never be gated expect by the player if they choice to do it or not… gating behind rep is bs and wasn’t done until now

This guy. He gives a weekly quest that give you 500 renown for each of the four original factions. But you know what. I stand corrected, he gives faction first, but since i am maxed he gives me token. I completely forgot.

I apologize. I was wrong. Sorry,

((I probably shouldn’t be on the forums when dealing with braindead sales people))

I’m honestly more annoyed that it’s way too easy to do a lot of story quests in the wrong order if you take a break from the game which creates a huge narrative mess.

Even if you play the story in the correct order, it’s a huge narrative mess.
