More like “I can transmog my helm or take it off in town, but I want to hide it in town, which is totally different.”
So, the bad “but.”
“I know we have option A, but I wish we still had the better option B.” Hmm… Nope, not the bad “but”.
As an owner of the mog mount this is not a problem for me. My beautful hair will always be out, flowing in the wind.
If its for RP purposes, you could always take it off. It’s not like you need the ilevel and stats to RP.

I’ll admit that it’s entirely possible that I’m missing something, so let me check:
You want to hide your helmet. You can:
Some combination of those options would seem to achieve your stated ends, but again, I may be missing something obvious.
Thats what i said!
And i take my helm off 1 step a time like any other player… By click, hold and drag.
At least it’s free. Transmogging boots to troll shoes, on the other hand, costs gold. (Although eventually, the patch will change it to “hide boots”; which will be free.)
What are you talking about?
Its still within the Transmogrifier/Transmog.
I may be missing something obvious.
Apparently. Helm hiding is one click. Click, your helm is hidden. Click, your helm is no longer hidden. Works all the time, everywhere. That’s it. That the entirety of it.
Mogging, you have to go to a mogger, which means a city or the mount, and the mount is not always an option, like when you’re not outdoors.
Taking off your helm has the obvious problem of no longer wearing your helm. If you decide you want to hide your helm in a raid, well, good luck with that.
Bottom line, the one click helm hide/unhide option we used to have works any time anywhere and has no downside. All other options, while… adequate, do. I see no reason why also wanting an easier, simpler, more functional option is a bad thing.
Taking off your helm has the obvious problem of no longer wearing your helm. If you decide you want to hide your helm in a raid, well, good luck with that.
I don’t understand how this is a problem. If you want to hide it during raids then get a deployable attire rearranger.
The obvious problem with this is that you need a deployable attire rearranger, unlike with the helm hiding option.
is there a macro script to equip/remove a piece of armor? as for raid scenario, no answer for that.
You have the option to hide it still. Just go to the transmog guy in Stormwind City (if Alliance; Orgrimmar, if Horde…)

They streamlined the transmog system because it really didn’t make a lot of sense to spread the concept across multiple systems.
Sad for some, but the tradeoff is increased flexibility in hiding gear since they’ve introduced a few more slots over time and soon we will be able to hide everything but pants.
Indeed.

What else is Yak for? How could someone not have a Yak, in 2019? I finally bought one in Legion, when I made money hand over fist with herb and mine.
So I have to summon a Yak, then press a button.
They streamlined the transmog system because it really didn’t make a lot of sense to spread the concept across multiple systems.
It did make sense because the first thing I always did when making a new toon to go level (after putting on heirlooms of course) was to go hide my helm. I cant use my yak at level 1.
In other games you just change whatever you want about your appearance via a menu. No mount or gold or anything required. I think saying “please just let me hide my ugly heirloom helm when I make a character” really isnt too much to ask.
Tbh, with most of items being hideable in 8.2, I think it would be much better if they added a visibility (eye icon) togglebox next to each item slot in the character screen.
Just because you had a procedure for what you did when you made a new toon doesn’t mean it made sense. It was convenient for you because now you don’t have to immediately run off to a main city or wait a little bit to get there naturally.
Again, I realizes it inconveniences some people but I think the standazation they made makes sense.
No, transmogging to “hidden helm”, unlike the old “hide helm”, is not actually free if it’s temporary.
Unhiding your helm used to cost nothing. However switching back from hidden helm costs you the full transmog price once more.
