Plenty of SS of being 8K in a queue of 5+ hours. Check out one of the hundred or so #LayerArugal threads. Or reddit.
In any case, there are dozens of overcrowded servers with twice the numbers of players that Vanilla was designed for. This was a change brought on by Blizzard, not the players. It also was a change that brought with it problems of its own, like gathering.
I don’t even know why you’re bothering to argue about this. Do you believe server populations should be doubled (or more) without adjusting herbs and so forth?
How many concurrent players do you think Arugal has on before the queue kicks in? Is it 7k, 10k? At peak time the queue is horrible. And the servers hold more now then they did in Vanilla, right?
I ask because you seem to have some inside source that is giving you the answers. I’m genuinely curious how you know how many people are logged on at any given time and what the cap is.
I’m not sure how many concurrent players there are on Arugal or any realm for that matter. But there were SS in #LayerArugal thread and I distinctly remember seeing on poor fellow in a queue of over 8K.
I’m not going to look for it, and don’t really expect anyone to take my word for it either. But we ALL remember this one:
So we KNOW that Blizzard allowed over 25K people on a single server. Not sure how many are playing on Arugal now, and not sure how many are playing concurrently.
But we KNOW that Blizzard removed layering. We KNOW that Arugal is a full server. We KNOW that Blizzard, again, upped the number of people who can play concurrently.
We KNOW that Arugal is overcrowded.
Blizzard broke that addon. You had to manually click the sendwho command and it could take hours to scan maybe 800 players. Then they fixed it again and Blizzard broke it again.
This hasn’t been a reliable way to check pops for months.
Oh I’m not disputing that there was an 8k queue, it’s honestly not hard to believe. I just didn’t see it is all. From personal experience I’ve seen it at over 3k.
I’m not sure if layering is turned on for Arugal, if they don’t that’s 6kish logged in with a 3k+ queue at peak times. It’s not hard to believe there would be 12k+ people on If they do have layering turned on.
How many people quit or just don’t log in at peak times anymore because of a huge queue?
Yes there were because fitting everyone into one place would be crazy. But that’s what they did to Arugal. They removed layering and wound up with crazy queue times. So what did Blizzard do? They upped the concurrent player population.
From their site.
When I use this on some realms it works like a charm, on other realms it takes 5 hours to scan about 600 characters and it looks like it’s scanning under the same parameters. For instance, the scan has queried level 60 night elf hunters several times, but has input a grand total of 5 dwarfs into the 600 character dataset.
Is there a reason it “works” on some servers but no on others?
I’ve never had an issue with the addon. It’s far more reliable than the “feeling” based evidence people use to claim servers have 5x or 10x the players of Vanilla servers, or whatever number they feel like using at any given time.
Here’s Faerlina Alliance side 2 weeks ago at prime-time during an Ony head drop. Alliance is slightly more populated than Horde on Faerlina:
