Open source is free. And not, it’s not a vast difference.
tell that to RHEL, it doesn’t have to be free as in free beer, learn the difference
Nope, you can’t. It’s possible to write macOS apps with Windows or Linux, but not iOS apps. Even if you use a cross platform UI toolkit like Flutter or React Native, which will allow you to write the bulk of the code in Windows/Linux you still need a Mac to compile the app and submit it to the App Store. My company doesn’t use either of those because they come with a number of drawbacks.
It is free. If you pay for it you’re scammed.
there are quite a few distributions that charge money for their work. you sound very ignorant.
You sound very idiot to pay for altered work provided for free. Do you pay for Zygor too for questing?
Distributions like Red Hat Linux cost money because what’s being sold is support. Regular people don’t usually buy commercialized Linux distributions like that, they’re mainly aimed at corporations who require someone they can call up when things break. They don’t get that if they use free (as in beer) Linux distributions.
RHEL, SEL, both of which are commercial driven distros with contracts and paid for support. Just because something has historically been free doesn’t mean its not always free of charge. There are 2 distros that are aimed at the end user Linspire and Zorin that cost money to use. Zorin is amazing. There are foss applications that get financial backing and a few that actually cost money as well. Then theres closed source applications on Linux. Valve is known for supporting Linux and charging for their games and being closed source. If you think you can’t make money on Linux then you are missing an untapped market.
You’re being spied on regardless of what OS you’re using. Just embrace the fact that privacy doesn’t exist in the digital age and you’ll be fine.
No Linux for the most part doesn’t actually spy on you. KDE Plasma has telemetry built in but it is opt in and off by default. Why do you insist on lying? Are you being paid to lie like this?
Was it that obvious? Oops.
I mean at this point it really seems that way with just how off base everyone seems to be. You and others are either being paid to lie and spread fud or you bought into the lies told to you by someone else. Either way it is a dangerous cycle. Desktop Linux is pretty amazing, you should give it a try, Ubuntu or Linux Mint are good starter distros, just use it on an older PC, or MAKE SURE you make a Windows 10/11 bootable USB drive JUST IN CASE. I mean wow hasn’t worked well in Wine ever since they switched to DX12 and Wine is generally unstable anyway. I just want vulkan support and to be able to play on Linux so I don’t need Windows around anymore. Me having an option doesn’t make Windows magically disappear for you does it? So why give an opinion if you have none to begin with?
Yeah GNOME3 is the pinnacle of ingenuity
Brb going to spend 10 years getting wifi to work on Linux.
works fine for me, did you forget to enable closed source drivers?
Nothing gets past you does it champ?
I’ll have you know it’s quite a handsome salary. It lets us buy all the WoW tokens one would ever need.
So you admit to being paid to spread fud. You do realize that is pretty bad right?
Sure, why not?
But at least I can still play WoW.
There wouldn’t be enough players using it to justify the resources. Besides, it’s not like there’s a ton of Linux users out there who don’t have a PC or Mac as well.
You guys have been saying that since it’s inception. Linux is niche it wont be fully supported this generation or ever at all.
Sure there would. You’re telling me you wouldn’t install Linux to get better performance? I know lots of people who would.
